Candidate's Statement

Reelect Tom DeSane to Sarasota County Charter Review Board District 3.

Appointed by Governor DeSantis.

Endorsed by Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt Hoffman.

Endorsed by Sarasota Young Republicans.

Endorsed by Grand Council of United Emerald Societies (National Irish organization).

My name is Tom DeSane. I was appointed to serve on the Sarasota County Charter Review Board by our Governor, Ron DeSantis, last year and I am asking for your vote to reelect me to District 3 of the Sarasota County Charter Review Board. I have spent the majority of my adult life in public service and I am asking for your help in continuing that service.

I started my career in public service in 1985 at the age of 20 when I took my first public oath and entered the Police Academy in New York City. I served and protected the community for 31 years as a Police Officer in the City of New York and its surrounding suburbs. In the days following September 11, 2001, I served in the rescue/recovery effort at the World Trade Center. The experience of digging through the rubble of those iconic buildings was one of the most challenging times during my career. The passage of time has not dulled my memory of those days.

After my retirement in 2016 and following extensive research, my wife, two daughters and I permanently relocated to Sarasota County. That was one of the best decisions we have ever made. We have been in our home for eight years and we love everything about living in Sarasota County. Its places and people make it the place where we want to live out our lives. During the past five years, I have worked in a public safety capacity for a private business in the area. I also serve as Vice President of our local Republican Club.

I am extremely proud to be the founder and President of the Blue Line Club, an association of retired law enforcement officers, firefighters and other first responders from around our country who now live here. We started with 15 members, now number over 200 and are growing every month. Last year our club was instrumental, with the help of Representative James Buchanan and Senator Joe Gruters, in amending state law to allow for first responder memorial flags to be flown statewide inside HOA communities, regardless of the rules of the HOA. I was very proud that we could help change state law for the benefit of all first responders and our supporters who live in the state.

On August 21, 2023 it was my great privilege to be appointed to serve on the Sarasota County Charter Review Board, District 3 by our Governor, Ron DeSantis. Since my appointment, I have been active at our meetings and committee meetings, both supporting the rights of and listening to the concerns of our county residents. I am currently a member of the committee to research updating the Charter Review Board bylaws. It has been my honor to serve on your behalf.

I have spent the better part of the last 39 years serving and protecting the communities that I have lived in. I am very grateful for having the chance to do so and I humbly ask for your vote to help me to continue to serve.

God bless you all and God bless the United States of America,

Tom DeSane
