Candidate: Greg Wood

I am a husband and father to 3 young daughters, and I am passionate about youth education and development. For nearly two decades, I coached middle through college aged children, guiding them to learn life and leadership skills and how to overcome adversity. I taught my students skills that allowed them to build a path toward their own unique successes. My experience puts me in a unique position to bring success to our schools; I understand the viewpoint of the parent, student, and teacher.

In addition to education, I have a well-rounded business background- Currently, I am a licensed Realtor. I am the former Executive Director and Head Coach of Sarasota Scullers, a 30+ year old local non-profit. I have served as a Lecturer and Head coach at Texas A&M University-Galveston and started two youth-based rowing programs. I traveled the world to teach teamwork and leadership to high level executives at Fortune 500 companies and run my own construction-based companies.

I believe in being part of the community and helping those around me. I am a graduate of Leadership Sarasota class of 2022, the Gulf Coast Board Institute, the Gulf Coast Executive institute. I currently serve on the Audit Committee for the Republican Party of Sarasota County. I am also a member of the Alumni Committee for Leadership Sarasota.

Our County and Country depend on a quality education. I will ensure parents always have a voice at the table and that our teachers, staff, students, and community have a school system that is built around student success. Our reading scores are unacceptable to me, and I will forge partnerships and work to increase scores to  bring more success to our childrens. My goal is to see our schools consistently ranked number one in the state of Florida, exceeding the “A” rating criteria. I will work to improve our graduation rates and teach them skills that will help them excel in the workforce, college, or military.
