Candidate's Statement

Jamie Haynes is a long-time resident of DeBary, a current Volusia County School Educator with over 31 years' experience of providing instruction and service to the students, teachers, staff, and parents of Volusia County, a single mom of two grown children, and a nana to an adorable grandson.

Jamie graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1987 with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and Mathematics.  Upon her graduation she moved to Volusia County to teach.

Jamie started her career at Enterprise Elementary in 1987 as a 6th grade teacher.  While teaching at Enterprise she earned her M.S. degree from Nova University.  Over the past 31 years Jamie has had the opportunity to teach at both the elementary and secondary levels.  In addition to being a classroom teacher, she has held the following positions:  Academic Coach, Title VI Lead TOA, and Title I TOA.  In these positions Jamie modeled lessons, provided professional learning, mentored new teachers, coordinated state testing at the school level, organized after-school tutoring programs, and summer prorgrams. 

Upon Jamie's children entering high school she accepted the 12 month position of Title I Project Manager and took on the role of writing the Title I, Part A and SIG 1003(A) Federal grants.  In this position Jamie managed the grant budgets, approved expenditures, negoiated contracts, maintained monitoring and compliance documentation, and coordinated summer programs at the district level.

Jamie is currently the Title I Coordinator for Instructional Technology & Summer Programs.  The wonderful team she works with installs computers in all of the Title I Elementary Schools so students can have access to Title I funded supplemental instructional software programs for reading, math, and science.  Her team also manages over 14,000 iPads located at all Title I Schools throughout the district.  In addition to providing the hardware and software, the team provides professional learning for teachers on how to utilize the technology with students to increase academic achievement. Throughout the school year the team prepares for the 21 academic summer programs offered by VCS which begin in June each summer and run through the end of July and / or beginning of August.
