Candidate: Dr. L. Ronald Durham

In his 46 years of leadership as a community trailblazer, Dr. Durham has been at the forefront of community affairs: 1. Partnered in the development of Operation Safe Surrender, a redemption program for minor offenders in Volusia County. 2. Constructed Friendship Academy of Daytona Beach, a childcare learning center. 3. Served as Community Relations Coordinator to aging seniors through Halifax Health Hospice. 4. Chaired the MLK Celebration for Florida, Inc., providing scholarships to Volusia County HS graduates. 5. Serves as Chaplain for the Volusia County Sheriff’s Department. 6. Presently coordinating the new homeless shelter on 17/92, as Community Relations Mgr of Daytona Beach. 7. Member of the Civic League of the Halifax Area. 8. Former Trustee of Bethune Cookman University under Pres. Reed. 9. Member of Mayor Ritchey’s “Kitchen Cabinet”. 10. Former Co-chair of F.A.I.T.H. (Fighting Against Injustice Toward Harmony). 11. Received Daytona Beach Police Department Distinguished Service Citation 12. Received NAACP Carolyn Ivy Leadership Award 13.
