Candidate's Statement

Peggy Choudhry was born in Providence, Rhode Island. Community service has always been a passion for her. When she was 13, she became the youngest founder to a non-profit organization focused on helping keep kids off the streets. Throughout her high school and college years she kept herself busy helping her community. Peggy was one of the first Feinstein Scholars, in Providence, RI -- given the recognition for her compassion, dedication to public service and determination for making a positive difference in the lives of others.

After college, she took a position with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as an Immigration Officer and within a short time was promoted to Adjudications Officer with Citizenship and Immigration Services in the Orlando district office.

After several years of service with Federal law enforcement, Peggy decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and become a business owner. Peggy successfully owned and managed a small hotel on U.S. 192 in District 1 for over nine years. Currently, she is the President of Hospitality Sidekicks; a consulting firm that helps small hotels find success.

Peggy is an active board member in many organizations, including: Experience Kissimmee, Hispanic Business Council, Osceola Resort Area Council, Central Florida Regional Planning Council, Four Corners Area Council, among others. She also volunteers for non-profit organizations across Osceola County and continues to give countless hours of community service.

Peggy Choudhry, ran for office in 2016 for the first time and won her seat against a two-term incumbent.  While in office Commissioner Peggy Choudhry hit the ground running.  She worked hard to be sure the people's voices are heard by creating the first Citizens, Student and Business committee's in which anyone in the county can come and participate.  Many Residents have taken advantage of these committee's in addressing concerns, issues and questions on all thing’s county related.  Commissioner Choudhry created the first Connect Osceola YOUTUBE Channel to help inform "The People" all about the different county departments, agencies and organizations around Osceola county.

Among many other accomplishments including helping to create the very first One Stop Resource Center with the Salvation Army, Commissioner Choudhry has been able to accomplish what some thought was unattainable goals for a new commissioner in a short period of time.  Keeping her promise to the people when she ran for office in 2016 which includes the following:

- Protecting our Natural Resources which included being the sole voice on the commission to protect Split Oak Forest one of Florida's Natural wonders.
- Providing our first responders with the new tools and trucks they need to protect our families.  Including new facilities putting tax dollars at work for our safety and security.
- Protected our small businesses and provided resources and avenues for our new entrepreneurs to help create jobs in Osceola County. This also Includes stopping the excessive traditional double dipping cost and fines that the county was charging unnecessarily.
- Demanded transparency when discussing yearly budgets.  Requested explanations to questionable recommendations by staff and requested for citizens input and recomendations be concidered and added to our budget review process.

Most importantly Commissioner Peggy Choudhry has become the voice for the people.   She has been the outspoken non-traditional politician that always puts the people first which has earned her the nickname #ThePeoplesCommissioner.
