Candidate's Statement

My name is Jarvis Hough. Whether in service to my country or to my community, I am no stranger to public service.

As a United States Marine, I learned the importance of a dedicated work focus and strict commitment to common goals and duty. Through extensive leadership courses and training, I have acquired "a particular set of skills" which make personnel management and accountability a specialty of mine. While many veterans use their military experience as a political ploy, I plan to use mine in rebuilding the trust of the community in its local government. As your Clerk of Court, my first priority of business will be to ensure that your concerns are not only heard, but addressed. The task is far from a simple one, but I look forward to consulting the best and brightest minds available to tackle inside problems with outside solutions.

Aside from my military duties, I've learned the importance of fiscal management and financial accountability of high volume items as a postal finance clerk. Contributing to critical operations of Combat Logistics Battalion of the 1st Marine Logistics Group during Operation Iraqi Freedom, I know what it means to perform under pressure. Working with my fellow Marines, we dedicated ourselves a minimum of 12 hours a day, seven days a week to meet our goals. Our efforts were instrumental in the movement and distribution of over 500,000 pounds of mail in service to 50 units throughout the region during our deployment.

As a postal operations clerk I was responsible for the day to day management and coordination of the largest scale postal facility in Okinawa, Japan, which saw close to a million dollars annually in revenue. I performed to a standard high enough to garner the merit and attention of my superiors and I was promoted to Custodian of Postal Effects for Camp Schwab, Okinawa soon after. I always approached my duties with diligence and enthusiasm, which is something I hope I can continue as your Clerk of Court.

Government is extremely important in our daily lives. Understanding how it operates is key in anticipating the challenges it can create. As a Civics teacher for the past six years, I've made my students aware of the importance of active participation in the community. Some of you have seen me at events long before reading this and I look forward to meeting many more of you in the days ahead.

I am a strong believer that results cannot be promised, they must be produced. If you are looking for a candidate to make you a bunch of promises unintended of keeping, then I'm not the candidate for you.

There is only one promise I can offer…

If given the opportunity, no one will outwork me when it comes to pledging for the citizens of this great county. I ensure that the trust you have placed in me will not be taken for granted once the polls close.

It's time to put the clerk back to work.

I'm ready, are you?
