Candidate's Statement

Candidate for Osceola County Tax Collector 

Orlando Gonzalez has been in Osceola County resident for 48 years, with service to the citizens of Osceola County for many of those years. Married for 31 years to his wife, Lauren, they have two great sons, Bradley and Marcus. 

For the past 13 years, Orlando has worked as a residential appraiser for the Osceola County property appraiser’s office. He is responsible for over $800 million in valuation of residential properties. He works closely with other departments and has an extensive knowledge of rules and regulations required by the Florida Department of Revenue.  

Prior to this position he worked two years at the Osceola County Tax Collector’s office in the Delinquent Tax Department. He was responsible for the collection and enforcement of personal tax accounts, tangible property accounts and compliance of business tax receipt. He worked with taxpayers and collected $480,000 in delinquent accounts. 

Orlando had the opportunity prior to working for Osceola County to work as an International Police Officer Supervisor through the United Nations International Peace Keeping Mission in Kosovo. His responsibility included coordinating missions and collaboration with the International Police Commissioner, Head of Kosovo International Crime Bureau, and the Department of Justice. He worked on the Close Protection Unit, protecting political dignitaries while they were in the Kosovo area. While on this mission, he received the United Nations Medal for Service. 

While serving for the Florida Highway Patrol as a State Trooper, Orlando worked as an investigator and an instructor for 15 years. He conducted criminal investigations, and forcing the state laws pertaining to driver’s license, tags, vehicle registrations and case preparation and testifying in court. The Florida Highway Patrol is a division of the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, as is the Driver's License division of the Tax Collector’s office.

Orlando is a graduate of Osceola High School and attended Valencia Community College Criminal Justice Institute. He is a graduate of the Florida Highway Patrol Academy and earned his commissions on criminal justice standards and training by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. He is a licensed real estate professional, a member of the Florida Association of Property Appraisers and the Florida Government Financial Officers Association. 

Being community orientated, Orlando serves as the Vice Chair of the St Cloud Finance Committee, whose members make recommendations for budget and capital expenditures of $170 million-dollar budget, as well as reviewing fiscal activities for the city. He formally served as the Vice Chair of the St Cloud Planning Commission. 

In Orlando’s 33 year career, he has learned the skills required to take charge of a situation, evaluate all perspectives, make a decision, and complete all tasks successfully. He has managed personnel in high-risk situation and earned the respect of personnel through teamwork. He consistently treats all people with respect and dignity.
