Candidate: Laura Lawhon

Dear Wakulla County Voters:

I am passionate about education and focused on our future! A veteran teacher for the last 16 years in Wakulla County, I believe now is the time to serve the great people of Wakulla in a different role.  I hope that the August election of 2022, you will consider voting Laura Lawhon for District 5 school board member.

Personal:

I have lived in Wakulla County my entire life and currently live in Sopchoppy. My husband, Shawn Lawhon, is a self-employed business owner and we have two children, Abbigail and Reagan Lawhon who attend Riversprings Middle School and Medart Elementary.

Educational Background:

I attended Crawfordville Elementary, Wakulla Middle, and graduated from Wakulla High in 2001. After high school, I attended Tallahassee Community College to earn my A.A. I later attended Flagler College and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 2006. I am certified as an Educational Media Specialist K-12, Elementary Education K-6 and have received endorsements for English Speakers of Other Languages, Reading, and Gifted. In the summer of 2020, I completed my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida.

Community/School Involvement:

I am an active member in my church, Sopchoppy Southern Baptist, and served many years as the children’s activity coordinator and vacation bible school director. I served as the mission friends leader and Sunday night activity leader at my church. I have coached many youth sports teams at Wakulla County Recreation park and continue to support youth sports in Wakulla as my youngest daughter plays numerous sports at the recreation department. Professional Background:

My professional background includes teaching in the Wakulla County School district for the last 15 years. I also served as a media specialist for two years at Wakulla Middle School during my teaching experience. Serving as the media specialist allowed me the opportunity to partner with our community, through the Wakulla County Library, to provide access to online library resources and online books. As a media specialist I was tasked with overseeing the budget for the library and fundraising through book fairs and community partnerships. For the last two years, I have served as the chief financial officer of my husband’s construction business and am responsible for the financial accounts.

It is an honor to serve the people of Wakulla County and I look forward to serving them in the future if elected.
