Candidate: Eddie Hand

Thank you for taking the time to read my bio. When I am asked what my core values are, to me, it’s simple: Faith, Family, Integrity, Ethical and Hard work. I have been asked to share my vision and beliefs for Wakulla County School Board, District 1. My response: I do not believe in standardized testing, and I do believe that teachers are not paid adequately. I will fight for our teachers and ensure that they have the tools to perform to the best of their ability and are compensated as they should be.

I have been married to my wife Tayna for 9 years and we have 3 sons, Gage, Joe, and Easton. We are currently Licensed Foster Parents and have been fostering our precious baby girl since she was 2 days old, she is now 27 months. I have an Associate’s Degree from Tallahassee Community College and currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree with a projected completion date of December 2022.

I grew up in Sneads, Florida, located in Jackson County; however, living in Wakulla County the last 9 years, this is my home! I have chosen to run for the School Board to ensure that my children and all other children of Wakulla County are given the best opportunities to pursue their dreams. I believe the people of Wakulla County deserves prompt responsive representation and someone that will be ready to fight for them.

Being raised in Sneads, I was raised by two loving parents who taught me an unwavering work ethic and the sense of treating people as you want to be treated. I also was taught that a person’s good word and a handshake are all you need. Having been in an elected role before on the Sneads Town Council for 4 years (2 terms), I know what is like to be there for the citizens you represent.

For over 16 years, I have worked for the Florida Department of Corrections in the Health Services Department. During my time with FDC, I have also seen a lot of changes and must deal with a lot of difficult people & tough situations. I have been assigned to Wakulla Correctional Institution on two separate occasions during my tenure with FDC. I currently manage approximately 160 employees and manage a $10.4 million-dollar annual budget. I communicate with staff, inmates, their family members and inmate advocates as well.

In Conclusion, it is my goal to bring my experiences through prior elected position, appointed positions, volunteer work and my personal life. I plan to be a voice to and for all. I will strive to be a fresh set of eyes that I believe our county needs.
