It is by choice that I became an American and I feel a great indebtedness to this nation. Twenty years ago our life in America began in NYC and the Statue of Liberty, the monument that embodies freedom, hope and opportunity. With my Bachelors Degree in hand, I landed my first job working for McDonald’s and from there to the battle fields of the construction and unionized building trades in New York City. As part owner of a construction company we completed projects ranging from $1M to $10M with several government entities. Because of my work ethic, I was offered and accepted a job opportunity to work for the second largest engineering firm in the US, URS Corp. Success follows hard work and a disciplined mind. Within five years of our move we purchased our first home. At times God has a different plan and my husband’s illness in 2002 prompted our move to Ocala. In 2006 we were dealt a true loss with his passing. The unfailing love of God never ends and with faith in Him we worked thru our grief as a family. All three of my children graduated with high honors from the Marion County public school. They are off to college in the field of medicine and engineering in pursuit of their dream. It is time for a new chapter in my life. I stepped upon these shores and was given the chance to reach out and grab hold of the brass ring of life. Now it’s my turn to help our 42000 students to have a go at reaching and grabbing their brass ring. A coveted well earned diploma is the key that will allow them the same chance afforded to me. I have a laser focus to assist them in this endeavor and with your support and encouragement we can and should provide an education that will make “the Tassel worth the Hassle. That is why you see my name on the ballot. I have experienced life as an immigrant, as a McDonald worker, as a successful business owner, as a responsible and dedicated employee, as a widowed mother of three and as a true American citizen with the ability and desire to exercise my responsibility at becoming a means for the improvement of the future of my country. Education is a fundamental pillar of freedom and economic opportunity. During the campaign process, I had the opportunity to see the good and the bad of politics and the one thing that has offended me the most is the fact that I am not from the Christian faith. My mother has paid dearly for my education in a Christian school and I have accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Just like Bobby Jindal, the Governor of Louisiana and Dinesh D’Souza, the author of “America: Imagine the World Without Her”. I, Jane Moerlie, am a true American Patriot and of the Christian faith. I bring the following qualities to the School Board: My work ethic, tenacity, mental toughness to master challenges and the perseverance to see things through. I have the will and the drive to go where problems lie and analyze and develop action plans to solve these problems. My desire is to influence the outcome. I have an iron will to succeed even when the going gets rough. Any one can sail in calm seas but the true test is how I can handle adversity and disappointments when the water gets rough.
