Candidate: BOBBY JAMES

Bobby James is the only candidate for School Board – District 3 who has over 30 years of knowledge of the workings of the Marion County School system and more than 7 years of experience on the Marion County School Board, twice elected as Board Chair. James holds a Master’s Degree in Supervision and Administration and a Bachelor of Science in History, Health and Physical education. He is a retired educator and has worked in the capacity of teacher, coach, Dean and Assistant Principal and Principal during his career. Appointed to the Marion County School Board in 2007 by then Governor Charlie Crist who stated \"Bobby is an outstanding public servant who has dedicated his career to serving children as an educator, coach and principal. \"Having worked in Marion County for over 30 years, Bobby understands the educational needs of the local community and is well-qualified to serve in this position.\" James was then elected to the school board in 2008 where he has served as Chairman and a member of the board to this date. Bobby James is married and has one son (a teacher within the Alachua County School System) and is a member of the Central Church of Christ in Ocala, Florida. James believes to succeed we need to focus on open communication between schools, parents and the community; offer a balanced curriculum and articulation between school levels; demand accountability in fiscal matters; ensure that school safety is a priority; work to continue to provide a quality education for all; to be fair, factual and firm in all decisions; and most of all to instill the desire for students to attend school and become prepared for the future. Bobby James has been involved with Take Stock in Children, YMCA of Marion County, “Drop Back In” Academy, Leadership Ocala Youth Board, Marion County Boys and Girls Club (Ocala & Dunnellon), Marion County Public Education Foundation, Childhood Development Board, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Kiwanis Club of Ocala, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Kid\'s Central and former chairman of the Central Florida Public School Boards Coalition.
