Laura Moss Candidate for Hospital District My thanks to the 111 residents of Indian River County who signed individual petitions in order to qualify me as a candidate. I felt privileged to speak with each of you. Many of you expressed your concerns. Rest assured. I heard you, and I hope to speak with many more residents during my campaign. Did you know that candidates for Hospital District can qualify simply by paying a $25.00 fee or by submitting only 25 signed petitions? I chose to qualify by petition because I want your comments and opinions, and I chose to go beyond the 25 required because I\'d like to reach as many folks as I can. Hospital District represents you and plays an important role within our community. Your views should be heard. For those not familiar with Hospital District, it is both a taxing agency and a landlord. It is both responsible for a current, annual budget of $12+ million in taxpayers\' funds dedicated to indigent care and responsible for real properties including Indian River Medical Center, VNA Hospice, and Gifford Health Center. Hospital District positions are nonpartisan and unpaid. Hospital District faces increasingly complex and challenging issues. Given my credentials, I believe that I am the right person at the right time, and I would be honored to work with them. I am a year-round resident dedicated to serving our community. I have become knowledgeable about the challenges facing Hospital District by regularly attending its meetings since January 2014 and studying relevant documents. I have had an ongoing, professional involvement in medicine and healthcare since 1980 and can employ my knowledge, training, and experience to benefit all residents of our County. I held sole responsibility for an annual budget of $12 million in the private healthcare-sector. So, I understand spending wisely and being responsible for results. I have been married for many years to a Board-Certified psychiatrist, currently licensed in FL, CA, and NY. I live and breathe medical/healthcare issues. In him, I have readily available a general medical and specifically psychiatric resource —— the latter especially important, given that \"behavioral healthcare\" has been problematic in our community for some time. I personally have taken medical histories and well understand the needs of both physicians and patients. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Albany (cum laude; 1974), and I completed two certificate programs at New York University in 2012 (digital media marketing; public relations).
