Karen Disney-Brombach School Board – District 1 I am running for reelection to the Indian River County School Board because I believe strong schools are the foundation of healthy communities. When our county offers children a great education, we give them the necessary tools they need to build the brightest future possible. As the landscape of public education changes, experience matters to navigate the new mandates and initiatives. My experience and training give me the tools I need to fight for the high quality school system that our community deserves. In 2008, I earned the distinction of Certified Board Member and I am currently preparing my portfolio to be recognized as Advanced Certified School Board member. Building good working relationships with local, state and federal agencies and other elected official takes time and perseverance. Meeting with the White House Education Advisory staff, US Department of Education, Senate and House Education Committees, I was able to communicate the impact of federal mandates on local school districts. At the state level, meeting with the Governor and his staff as well as the FL Commissioner of Education, we have discussed the impact of high stakes testing to children. These and many other issues continue to be raised to the benefit of our students and the protection of the taxpayers. From the day our family moved into Indian River County I have been an active volunteer in the community. After being chosen as the Volunteer of the Year for the school district I decided to run for a seat on the School Board. The voters of Indian River supported me and I was elected in 2006 and reelected in 2010. Please support me in this election so I may continue to serve this community that I love so much.
