Candidate: Shawn R. Frost

I love Indian River County. When my travels for work, schooling, or defense of this great nation in the USMC took me around the world it did one thing; remind me how much I love this place. My life is inexorably tied to this county. The story of Indian River County, simply stated, is the story of my life. I promise that nobody is more deeply connected to this county and I will work on the key issues. 1. Prosperity & The Economy- specifically helping small business owners flourish and create jobs while reducing the tax burden for all citizens. I want to help you earn more and keep more of what you earn. 2. Preserving the character and natural treasures of our county, specifically the Indian River Lagoon. It is the heart and namesake of our county, an environmentally important treasure, as well as an economic engine. It is the core of our brand promise and offering. 3. Faith in Community and Faith in Charity. Small governments with local, accessible, and transparent leadership are ideal. Charitable organizations, both faith based and secular, are weakened when the government grows too large. Smaller government means stronger families, spiritual communities, and humanitarian efforts. Cutting taxes puts money back in your pockets to share with those causes that matter to YOU. Reducing the role of Federal government and unelected organizations\' influence in local affairs and restoring \"home rule\" is essential because those closest to the issues have the best solutions. Indian River County challenges require Indian River County solutions. Education: I was taught courage on the rope swing at the \"swimming hole\" jumping into the rain swollen Sebastian River. I was taught to be patient hunting the scrub pines out west. I learned to read the water on the Indian River Lagoon while oystering, shrimping and casting for mullet. I learned to spot trends and be judicious in wave selection by surfing every break from Sebastian Inlet to Round Island. I learned to care about sea life and my fellow human beings both in church and by seeing the strength of character that comes from surviving hurricanes together.
