Candidate: Richard D. SR Marini

With my extensive experience in emergency preparedness and public safety, I am meticulous and inquisitive; I ask not only questions but provide answers. Strategic planning and quick thinking are just a couple of my management skills. As a former member and president of many Parent Teacher Student Associations, my leader- ship abilities are irrefutable. I know that I can lead this district in the right direction. As a community, we owe it to the students of Indian River County to provide them an education that prepares them for the future. One of the areas needing consideration is the Career and Technical Education program. The program encourages students to succeed. It provides them with trade skills and business experience. Stu- dents earn national industry certifications that will lead to job opportunities right out of high school. Students need to be equipped for careers in which they will be productive and successful. The district and board must communicate with the state and work to reduce the financial encumbrance caused by unfunded mandates. For example, the state is requiring all students to take an online class prior to graduation. While this seems innocuous enough, the district is burdened with the costs for providing technology and teacher supervision. We need to look at areas that can be adjusted that do not directly affect the students. One way that I will personally contribute to this is by not accepting a pension or insurance from the School Board when I’m elected.
