Candidate's Statement

Hello, I am Cynthia Santana De Las Salas but you can call me, Cyndi.

I was born in Chicago, IL and moved to Clewiston, FL at the ripe age of 10! I am the proud daughter of two very hard-working, loving, generous, and determined immigrants. Who have taught me the value of a relationship with Jesus Christ, hard-work, determination, and integrity.

I was a Clewiston High School Alumni until April of 1990 and in 1991 I married my high school sweetheart. I started in the education field in 1993 as a Paraprofessional and while married with children I obtained my undergraduate degree from Florida Gulf Coast University with a Bachelor’s in Elementary Education K-6, an ESOL Endorsement K-12, and later a Reading Endorsement K-12. I now hold two Masters in Education K-12 degrees. I have three concentrations: Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership and School Counseling PK-12.  I am currently licensed in all areas mentioned.

I proudly served the Hendry County Public School system for 25 years, I proudly served the Clewiston Christian School (CCS) for almost 3 years and I am currently working at Moore Haven Middle High School always assisting students with their emotional, social, academic, and spiritual needs.  Both public and private experiences have taught me so much about the education world and I feel blessed beyond measure. They have also made me more flexible in my thinking because I now see both sides of the coin which is extremely important when making educational decisions for your children.  We must be able to see all sides.

I am the very proud mother of two University of Florida graduates (Go Gators!) and my passion has always been teaching and helping people achieve their fullest potential. I believe that everyone deserves the chance to lead a healthy, happy, fulfilling life.

I am running for Hendry County Commissioner, District 4 because I believe in my community and if elected for County Commissioner of District 4 I will not only follow their mission statement, with God's help, I will continue to serve my community with integrity, hard work, dedication and determination.   I will continue to educate the population, build relationships, fight for its health facilities, and improve the quality of life for its citizens.  I will continue to support the Serving with Love ministry that provides food to community members, and I will continue to teach students from PreK- all the way to Adulthood.  I truly believe if I am elected I will restore hope in all of Hendry County’s political parties because I am not a politician, I am a servant of this community.  The love I have for America in general unites me to the causes ahead and allows me to work together hand in hand with any political side.

I cannot stop here without saying, if you vote, Cynthia Santana De Las Salas for County Commissioner, District 4 I will continue to be the voice of the people!  A few years ago, I went to Tallahassee and rallied with the Mill workers for both Okeelanta and US Sugar Employees.  I helped the mill workers voice the need for our mills to continue and stood beside my husband and his fellow coworkers as they fought for their jobs, their livelihood and our city’s economy.  In 2017 I voiced my concerns with the growing number of students who were ending up either in jails or worse.  I have fought for accountability and I have shown a light on injustices that were otherwise swept under the rug.

So, you see, if you want to keep the Mission of Hendry County you must vote, and you must vote with an open mind to the change that will continue to help our community, keep our integrity and make sure things continue to get done.  Vote, Cynthia Santana De Las Salas, for County Commission, District 4 and help keep Hendry County’s Sweetness!
