Biography:

A Lifetime of Dedication to Dixie County: I am Julie Herring, and I have spent my entire life in Dixie County. My deep roots in this community and my commitment to serving it are what drive me every day. With extensive experience in law enforcement, combined with my strong family values and dedication to public service, I am confident in my ability to serve as your Dixie County Sheriff.

Career Highlights: My law enforcement career began in 1987 when I joined the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Glen Dyals. Over the next 33 years, I worked my way through the ranks, gaining invaluable experience in dispatch, corrections, investigations, and administration. I have handled a wide range of serious crimes, including assault, sexual battery, armed robbery, homicides, and crimes against children, providing me with the expertise needed to lead the Sheriff's Office effectively.

I served under several sheriffs and played a crucial role in managing federal drug grants and participating in undercover operations with the Marion/Ocala Narcotics Task Force. My dedication and hard work saw me rise through the ranks, demonstrating my commitment to public safety and community service.

Personal Background: Julie was born and raised in Cross City, Dixie County, continuing a family legacy that spans generations. Her parents, Tom and Barbara Herring, instilled in her the values of hard work and community service. Both of her parents have since passed away, but their teachings and legacy continue to inspire Julie in her commitment to Dixie County. Julie has two brothers, Tim and Jamie, who also reside and work in Dixie County. She is the proud mother of a daughter, Brooke, and the loving grandmother of two grandsons, Carson and Colt. Family is at the heart of Julie's life, and she draws strength and inspiration from her close-knit family circle.

Community Involvement: Throughout my career and personal life, I have been actively involved in the Dixie County community. After retiring from the Sheriff's Office in 2017, I became the operator/manager of the Cypress Inn Restaurant for two years, a role that allowed me to stay connected with the community. In 2019, I returned to the Sheriff's Office as a Civil Process Officer until my departure in 2021 due to family commitments.

My commitment to Dixie County extends beyond my professional career. I have always valued hard work, integrity, and transparency, principles I uphold in both my personal and professional life. I believe in maintaining an open-door policy, ensuring that I am accessible to all residents of Dixie County.

Education: I graduated from Dixie County High School in 1980. I began my career working for my aunt in bookkeeping, income taxes, and as a licensed 220 Insurance Agent. My passion for public service led me to join the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office, where I dedicated over three decades to protecting and serving my community.
