Candidate's Statement

CLIFF DONENFELD                                website: electcliff.com    or    cliff-cares.com

for Collier County Commissioner District 1

A Compassionate Conservative Leader Providing Real Solutions over Political Platitudes

About Cliff                                                                                                     CLIFF CARES!

Cliff Donenfeld is a lifelong Republican but is far from an ordinary candidate or politician. Cliff understands what it means to be a “real” Republican. No other candidate running for County Commissioner comes close to matching Cliff’s long-term involvement in local, state and national politics, nor his outspokenness regarding the issues impacting Collier County. Cliff has been a strong voice on behalf of the residents of Collier County since moving here in 2004 and is not indebted to any special interest groups, developers, landowners or lobbyists.

Cliff has experience in our government and business communities and has extensive volunteerism and board participation with local non-profits. Here are some examples:

  • Vice Chairman of the Collier County Republican Party
  • Member of Collier County Public Transportation Advisory Board (until filing to be candidate for Collier County Commissioner per Florida Sunshine Laws)
  • Member of the Naples Board of Realtors since 2006 and award-winning Realtor/Broker Associate
  • Member of several local Republican clubs
  • Member of the East Naples Civic Association
  • NAACP Outreach/Events Director and Board Member
  • Experienced entrepreneur, businessman, and job-creator
  • Founder of the “Real Santa Program” started in Boston approximately 20 years ago in conjunction with the United Stated Postal Service, then brought to Collier County in conjunction with Youth Haven, Salvation Army, and numerous nursing homes, assisted living facilities and churches
  • Frequent visitor to local nursing/rehabilitation facilities (along with his 110 lb. white German Shepherd, Brie) including The Arlington, The Chateau at Moorings Park, The Glenview at Pelican Bay, and Manor Care at Lely Palms
  • Volunteer for youth programs including Youth Haven, The Salvation Army, Sunshine Kids and the NAACP
  • Local television personality, occasional columnist and Collier County Ambassador

A few years ago, a friend and mentor from church who shares Cliff’s political views - then-Governor Rick Scott - encouraged Cliff to run for office. Shortly after that, Cliff ran for Vice Chairman of the local Republican Party and won with about 70% of the vote. This run for County Commissioner is the logical next step in Cliff’s efforts to preserve and protect this beautiful County he has called home for the last 16 years.

Vision for Collier                                CLIFF CARES                                      electcliff.com

Our retiring Commissioner, Donna Fiala, takes pride in not being beholden to private interests seeking to influence the decisions of the Board for their own personal gain. Cliff will dedicate himself to being a full-time Commissioner and continue to carry that torch of integrity. Cliff will echo the mantra, “This District is Not for Sale!”.

Cliff’s business and real estate acumen, particularly in the local market, will protect us from repeating the mistakes of the past real estate boom. Collier County purchased swaths of land at the highest possible prices with improper and inefficient procedures, only to be sold off for so much less in just a few short years. Cliff will not let history repeat itself.

Conservation is important to Cliff and he is intent on stopping the planned construction of a parking garage at Clam Pass. Cliff knows there are far more economical and less self-serving ways of stemming development, including working with the Zoning Board and Planning Commission to create specific building moratoriums. Cliff comprehends the reality that a certain amount of development is inevitable, but we need to demand more from our developers in terms of providing greater benefits to our community than their own bottom lines. We need to work smarter to arrive at the kinds of commercial development we need in East Naples in particular. Cliff will gauge and listen to the will of his constituents.

Without Cliff in office, there will be no way to stop the reckless spending and tax increases that some current Board members seem to be intent upon implementing. Cliff will appropriate existing funds to the most crucial areas including water protection and emergency preparedness, and appropriately fund less critical but still important areas such as the Permitting Department, public transportation, and parks.

Real Solutions                                 visit cliff-cares.com

If elected, Cliff will propose and work tirelessly towards the implementation of the following solutions:

  1. Make a major annual investment in our water to keep our shores clean and pristine (akin to the beach re-nourishment program).
  2. Stop the reckless spending on mega-million dollar items like the $30 million parking garage on Pine Ridge/Seagate/Clam Pass, which, if allowed to go forward, will contribute to destroying our beaches, water, and create a traffic nightmare on Pine Ridge Road forever.
  3. Create a Real Estate Oversight Board for every County land deal comprised of members of Conservation Collier, residential and commercial appraisers, and members of the public.
  4. Establish lighted dog parks in East Naples, which will ensure safer parks for all.
  5. Increase investment in the Permitting Department and Public Transportation Department, which are underperforming divisions of our local government. Collier’s public transportation infrastructure is severely inferior to that of competing counties. Additional Park and Ride shuttles to the beach will provide easy, economical and environmentally superior access to the beach.

Professional Background

At age 25, after a few years as an executive at Calvin Klein Industries, Cliff became Vice President of the publicly held company, Cliff Engle. Cliff Engle produces sports apparel for all NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and college sports teams. Cliff later became the General Manager of the restaurants at Trump Tower, which led to personal involvement with Donald Trump and eventually partnerships in a series of nightclubs and restaurants throughout Manhattan.

Cliff’s business ventures next took him to Boston, where he opened several businesses including an art gallery. Cliff also purchased a group of UPS stores, which he built into the largest franchise group of its kind in the country. Amongst the group’s holdings was the business center and shipping department for the Copley Marriott.

After a successful sale of that business, Cliff was determined to head south. An initial stay at the Marco Island Marriott led him to open up the BIZXPRESS business and shipping center on Marco Island and an art gallery off Fifth Avenue in Olde Naples in 2004. In 2006, Cliff obtained his real estate license and joined Coldwell Banker, where he started in 2006 and is currently an Associate Broker. Cliff became well known as a fixture of the Fifth Avenue real estate community and for creating, co-producing and appearing in a local real estate television show.
