Candidate's Statement

Casmore  Shaw moved to Osceola County in the mid-80s from New York, where he worked as Associate Dean for the International Students and High School Program, the Director of Admissions and Student Enrollment at the Technical Career Institutes, (TCI, the College of Technology and Formerly RCA Institutes) and is the State Secretary for the Florida Democratic Party and Member of the Democratic National Committee. Prior to that, he worked for many years in Early Childhood Education where he taught at Mona Preparatory School, in Kingston, Jamaica.

Casmore currently serves on the Osceola County Housing and Finance Authority Advisory Board; the regional board of MetroPlan Citizens Transportation Advisory Board; and is a member of the Osceola Education Foundation, the Caribbean and Floridian Association. He is State Committeeman for the Osceola Democrats, and Interim Chair of the Osceola Democratic Executive Committee.

Additionally, Casmore is a founding member of the Kissimmee and Kissimmee South Poinciana Rotary clubs; past chairman of the Osceola Charter Review Commission for two consecutive terms 2008-2016; past chair of the Osceola Land conservation Advisory Board; past chair of the Board of Directors for the Osceola County Library Systems; past President and Vice President of the Caribbean and Floridian Association; past chair of the Osceola County School District’s Affirmative Action Advisory Board; former  Conflict Resolution Officer/Mediator; 9th Judicial Circuit, Osceola County.

Casmore holds degrees in Elementary Education; Business Administration with a concentration in Supervision and Management; and an Advanced Certificate in Health Care Administration, and s graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a minor in Reading Intervention from Concordia Universty.  He has worked at the senior management level in the areas of training and development, marketing and sales as well as education administration. He presently works at Polk State College in the Student Service department with responsibility for My Brother’s Keeper, a program for homeless and vulnerable students, and Co-Advisor to the Pearl of a Nation, Haitian Service Club.

Casmore is married to Jennifer Mitchell, and they have four daughters: Toni-Ann, Deirdre, Dionne, and Jennise.
