Candidate's Statement

Judge Heather K. O達rien is your Osceola County Court Judge who has served in the misdemeanor and criminal traffic division for the past seven and a half years. Judge O達rien received her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center and Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from the Colorado College where she was both the school痴 top political science student and top female athlete. Judge O達rien is a three time Academic All-American and a member of the national academic honor society (Phi Beta Kappa). An amazing athlete, Judge O達rien is the 1999 NCAA National Champion in the heptathlon (a seven event track and field competition), 1999 NCAA Woman of the Year (Colorado), 1999 Colorado Sports Hall of Fame citation winner, and 2005 inductee of the Colorado College Sports Hall of Fame. Judge O達rien was also a collegiate level track and field coach. Professionally, Judge O達rien served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Alex J. Martinez of the Colorado Supreme Court, an Assistant Public Defender and as a Staff Attorney to the judges of the Ninth Judicial Circuit. Immediately prior to serving as your county judge, she represented the citizens of Osceola County as an Assistant County Attorney where she was a member of the Florida Association of County Attorneys Public Safety Policy Committee. She also was an adjunct professor at Barry University School of Law. Devoted to and actively involved in Osceola County, Judge O達rien was given the 2012 Osceola Distinguished Leader award. She is a 2009 graduate of Leadership Osceola and has served on numerous boards, including both the Osceola County and Ninth Judicial Circuit Juvenile Justice Boards, the Osceola County Branch Board of the Boys and Girls Club of Central Florida, Community Vision and Osceola Arts. A fierce supporter of the Osceola County Teen Court Program, Judge O達rien committed over 270 hours to the program over the course of 4 years, was named the 2009 Volunteer of the Year, and is a three-time recipient of the Florida Supreme Court Exceptional Pro Bono Service Award. Additionally, Judge O達rien participates in the Justice Teaching Program which educates local students about the Constitution and legal system. Judge O達rien also is a member of the Silver Spurs.
