Candidate: Dawnyelle Singleton

Being a native of Sarasota and a proud product of the Sarasota County public school system, I understand the value of strong public schools. Quality Public School Education is crucial to the future of our community. Education is vital for our children, ourselves, and future generations. Serving the children, teachers, staff, and families will allow the opportunity for me to continue to give back to this community that raised me.

My public school upbringing was instrumental in shaping who I am today. After attending Alta Vista Elementary, Sarasota Middle, and graduating from Sarasota High School, I attended Florida State University, where I participated in campus activities, including student government. I was in college when I could vote for the very first time. I felt empowered like I had the ultimate responsibility in choosing the next President of the United States.

The importance of community involvement was instilled in me at an early age. My mom was involved in several community organizations and would often take me along with her to meetings during the week, and on the weekends, we would attend luncheons and banquets. Subconsciously she was showing me the value of volunteerism, networking, and giving back to my community.

There are over 40,000 students in Sarasota’s public school system. With your support and voice, we can ensure our children and teachers have the resources they need to thrive. We need to protect our public schools and teachers, especially from those looking to profit off our kids’ education and privatize schools.

Our teachers must be adequately compensated for the incredible work they do. We need to continue to recruit high-quality talent in all areas of education. We need to come together to make Sarasota County and its school community made up of our students, staff, and parents the best we can be.
