Candidate's Statement

My name is Robert A. Donet and I am running for Dixie County Commissioner, District 2.  I have lived in Old Town, FL since 2009 with my wife, Rebecca Donet, of 23 years, and our son, Matt Donet.  We are a Conservative Christian valued family and have a strong faith in Jesus Christ.  While working full time at the Department of Transportation I completed my teaching degree at St. Leo University.  I have been teaching Science to all 6th, 7th and 8th graders for the past 11 years at Nature Coast Middle School.  I have been the Dean of Students for the past 4 years.  Since I have been teaching Science, our school has been in the top 3 in the county for the 8th grade Science FCAT/FSA.  I am a very driven and competitive individual that believes hard work and persistence can make a difference. We have a small farm where we raise goats, chickens, and fruit.  We were negatively impacted by last years’ flood along with many of our neighbors.  This is the main reason I decided to run for County Commissioner; to help ensure that citizens receive the services that our tax dollars pay for.  I also realize that a commissioner should REPRESENT his/her community.  This means lots of input from the citizens, so the elected Commissioner can make decisions based on community needs/concerns.  If I am elected your concerns will NOT fall on deaf ears.  I want to make Dixie County the BEST it can be for everyone.

Concerns for the County:

  • Flooding
  • Lack of Services (EMS, ditch maintenance, roadside trash removal)
  • Improperly maintained county facilities (i.e.: the dump roll-off sites)
  • Proper growth that benefits/not harms the community
  • Bring more sustainable industry to the county that pays well
  • More tourism; especially ecotourism
  • Start a recycling program
  • Fair wages for all county employees
  • Start a County Festival (i.e: Chiefland’s Watermelon Festival, Williston’s Peanut Festival, Plant City’s Strawberry Festival)

Things I love about Dixie County:

  • Hometown feel because of nice, friendly people
  • Low taxes
  • Neighbors willing to give a helping hand when needed
  • Live Oak trees
  • Our beautiful beaches
  • The Suwannee River
  •  And much, much  more…
