Candidate's Statement

4002 42nd St W Bradenton FL 34205 (941) 448-4620 bill.waldron@verizon.net Website: http://www.waldron4sheriff.com/ I am 46 years old, a single father of a 22yoa, son and a 12 year resident of Manatee County. I have 20 years of experience in law enforcement and I am a retired Detective of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. I retired in August 2010 to pursue several career opportunities and to prepare for my 2012 Election Campaign for Manatee County Sheriff. I am a native of South Bend, Indiana and a 1983 graduate of Penn High School in Mishawaka, Indiana. I served in the United States Army Military Police where I received the Good Conduct Medal, an Army Achievement Medal and an Honorable discharge after completing my enlistment in 1987. I also received an Honorable discharge after completing service in the Indiana Army National Guard Military Police in 1994. I have worked as Volunteer, Reserve and Full-time Certified Fire Fighter and EMT in, Florida, Tennessee and Indiana, a 911 Tele-communicator, Command Post Coordinator and Mutual Aid Dispatcher in Tennessee, a Police Officer in Rome, Georgia and as a Domestic Violence Case Coordinator with the 6th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office in New Port Richey, Florida. I served as a Patrol Deputy and Detective with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office in Bradenton, Florida for over 11 years. I was a Detective for over 9 years in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, with assignments as an Investigator in the Property Crimes Section, Crimes Against Person’s Section and the Violent Crimes Task Force, with temporary duty assignments in the Gang Unit, Cold Case Homicide Unit and Professional Standards Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Team. I am an experienced and distinguished Homicide Investigator and Interviewer, having assisted in Homicide Investigations throughout Florida and in New Orleans Louisiana. I also served collateral duty for 6 ½ years as an Emergency Services Disaster Responder, Hostage Negotiator and Hostage Negotiations Team Leader with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office. I received Deputy of the Month for July 2003, for my work with the New Orleans Police Department on a Homicide Investigation, where I arrested both suspects in Manatee County and recovered evidence which resulted in the conviction of both suspects in New Orleans, Louisiana. I have received numerous letters of appreciation from several Florida law enforcement agencies, the State Attorney’s Office, The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and Citizens of Manatee County for my professionalism, assistance and work on Homicide and violent crime cases. I have completed Law Enforcement Academies in Alabama, Georgia and Florida and I am a certified Law Enforcement Instructor and Field Training Officer, with over 2800 hours of documented law enforcement and related training courses. Having a vast experience in investigating Gang related crimes and all types of violent crime in Manatee County, I am well aware of the current trends in these crimes and others and what efforts need to be taken to reduce crime in Manatee County in order to make our community a safer place for all people. I would like to re-institute community policing efforts back into our community to instill better relations with the people we are sworn to protect and serve. I would also like to create a Civilian Review Board to oversee the policies and procedures of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and to also act as an oversight committee to review investigations into complaints lodged against Deputies and all employees of the Manatee County Sheriff Office to insure that complete, thorough and unbiased investigations are conducted in connection with those complaints. I would also like to keep the public better informed of the various crimes and incidents affecting citizens of Manatee County and the progress of those investigations. These are just a few of the ideas I would like to implement if elected as your Sheriff of Manatee County.
