Candidate's Statement

Jim Davis moved to Jacksonville in 1982 as a student of Trinity Bible College. There he met his wife of 25 years, and found the Westside to be a great place to raise their two daughters. His compassion for others brought him opportunities to mentor inner-city children and families, visit the elderly, and later become an active leader in a local drug/alcohol rehab program. He has worked his way up through corporate ranks, managed several businesses, and established himself as an effective representative and communicator. www.jimdavis4dist12.com www.jaxobserver.com/morninginamerica/ Since the decline of conservative principles within the Republican Party he has become an activist; first in his precinct then in the 12th District, later to actively challenge the propensity of elected politicians to forget their conservative roots, and the constituents that elected them to represent those principles. Jim has invested hundreds of hours of personal time to visit, encourage and help Jacksonville voters who are frustrated with politicians who consider themselves to be unaccountable to their electorate. In 2008, Jim organized monthly walks to visit registered (12th District) voters on their doorsteps to listen to their ideas and concerns. Jim learned and identified with their perspectives, then represented them to the local Republican Party tenaciously. Recent polling data shows a clear majority of Jacksonville residents beilieve they are not being represented in the City Council. Jim is now determined that the 12th District is not part of that demographic. The status-quo, good old boy system has failed his neighbors, and Jim means to remedy that situation. His volunteer experience affords him the opportunity to write a weekly blog receiving in excess of10,000 views in its\' first year of publication. From continents as far way as Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, he has represented the working mans opinion in a way that proves the middle class is the backbone that keeps America strong. Jim believes the Westside is Jacksonvilles\' best opportunity to attract entry-level, mid-level, and high paying jobs by attracting corporations to the former Cecil Field area: Jobs that will benefit the citizens of the 12th district and Jacksonville as a whole. Jim also believes taxes are not too low, but rather too high: and are strangling the local economy. With lower taxes to galvanize cash-flow within the city, and reduced spending; Jacksonville can become the benchmark for effective administration. Jim recognises that some city employees have been scape-goated to excuse poor fiscal management; while others have been generously rewarded for their political activites. Jim understands the citizens of Jacksonville has suffered from this paradigm and he disagrees with its continuation. Jim desires to focus his pro-active energy into representing Jacksonville\'s 12 District- and maybe even challenge a few paradigms in the process!
