Candidate's Statement

W. Randall Gallup is a 7th generation Jacksonville resident whose family has resided in the area since the early days of Jacksonville\'s history. Raised in Arlington with the desire to serve the public at a young age, Randall attended Terry Parker High School where he played the drums in the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band. Upon graduating in 1994, Randall enrolled at the University of North Florida where in 1999 he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Public Administration. While there, Randall played in the UNF Pep Band and was the founder and president of the lacrosse club. Randall\'s first experience in city government came six months prior to graduation when he accepted a position as a Revenue Collector with the Tax Collector\'s office. One month after graduation, Randall was hired by the City of Jacksonville as an Assistant Planner with the Concurrency Management System Office (CMSO). During his six and half years with the CMSO, Randall received exemplary employee reviews and five commendations from the Director of Planning for his willingness to step outside the box and provide quality customer service while enhancing the image of Jacksonville as the best place in the nation to live, work and raise a family. Randall was promoted to the position of Planner and in 2006 was promoted to the position of Senior Planner with the CMSO. With the birth of Randall\'s first born in March 2006, the decision was made that he would leave the City of Jacksonville to start a home based consulting business and to care for his son from home. In August 2006 as his wife returned to teach in the Duval County Public Schools, as a Physics teacher, Randall left the City of Jacksonville with his vast knowledge in the planning and permitting field. During his tenure with the City, Randall worked on an average of 50 projects a month with the same commitment to each one while going above and beyond the scope of his position as a faithful civil servant when called upon. While leaving the City of Jacksonville was a difficult decision, Randall looked to venture into a new chapter in his life. Since leaving the City of Jacksonville, Randall has formed a successful growth management consulting business and through hard work expanded to the Northeast Florida five county region. In 2008, Randall\'s daughter was born and he was able to maintain his commitment to his family and clients. In 2010, Randall entered his fourth year running a successful small business in difficult times. He has shown how to manage a business and understands that your expenses must not exceed your revenue. Randall considers this one of the challenges the City of Jacksonville is facing and he would like opportunity to work with others on well thought out solutions. Randall is a Life Loyal member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity which he has been a member since 1996. He and his family are members of St. Andrew\'s Episcopal Church in Arlington where he attended elementary school for seven years. He is a committee member of the Gator Bowl Association, having started as a volunteer college band host for the past 15 years. He serves the Eagles Hammock Home Owners Association where he chairs the Architectural Review Board (ARB). Through this position, the ARB has allowed Randall to share his planning expertise with his community for the betterment of his neighborhood. He is committed to the beaches communities, where he is a stockholder member of Selva Marina Country Club, Atlantic Beach. With faith his community, commitment to local government and an ethical business background it has been Randall\'s lifelong desire to serve as a City Councilperson for the community he has a strong connection to and where generations of his family members have lived.
