Candidate: Doug Moore

My name is Doug Moore and I am a candidate for City Council District 11. I am a third generation farmer, businessman, father, grandfather and a lifelong resident of North Jacksonville with deep roots in the community. My father Bobby Moore represented this community as a member of the City Council when I was young, and taught me about the importance of public service. After serving in the U.S. Military, I returned to run M&M Dairy, raised four children and established several small businesses. I have served as Chairman of the Duval Soil and Water Conservation Board,a member of the Northside Business Leaders and the EDEN group. I am capable, experienced, and ready to be your next City Councilman. I have been troubled by the actions of the City Council in recent years and believe a change in direction is needed. I believe that in our current economic enviroment, residents and businesses cannot afford higher taxes or fees. We must maintain our most important and basic services while holding the line on unnecessary spending. If we do not reign in spending and stop goverment waste we will all suffer the consequences. Millions of dollars have been poured into unnecessary projects throughout the city while District 11 remains neglected. Our parks remain undeveloped, libraries are few and far between and good paying jobs are scarce. District 11 contains many of Jacksonvilles greatest assets, including the International Airport, Jaxport, Cecil Field, the Zoo and the Veterans Cemetery. Within our boundaries are some of the most beautiful natural beaches, and acres of pristine wilderness in the Timucuan Preserve. I intend to leverage those assets for the benefit of our citizens. I would very much like to hear your concerns so I can learn how to best represent you. Let\'s get to know each other so we can work together to improve our community and make District 11, and the City of Jacksonville a better place to live. Please vote March 22,2011.
