Candidate's Statement

Doyle Carter, Candidate for Jacksonville City Council, District 12, brings the conservative philosophies of old fashion values and common sense government by having less government, improving Westside infrastructure and for a brighter future of life for your children, grandchildren and his. The citizens of District 12 need a leader with experience and determination to make a difference and to bring back trust in government, making government accountable and to create jobs for people of District 12 and Jacksonville. Doyle is a lifelong Westside and District 12 resident to which he is still living on the property homesteaded by his great grandparents in the late 1800’s, early 1900’s. He is the son of John “Bud” Carter and Shirley Altman Carter, grandson of J.F. “Buddy” and Louise Altman. Doyle attended Thomas Jefferson Elementary, Ramona Elementary, Joseph Stillwell Junior High School and Ed White High School. He owned and operated a successful small business for 29 years and was faced with having to deal with government regulations, employees and payroll taxes. He now manages a lawn care business. Doyle is a member of Old Plank Road Baptist Church. He has served as a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Director, Treasurer and Finance and on the Building, Grounds and Missions committees. Doyle has a strong commitment for his faith, community and family as his testimonial walk reflects. Doyle has been married to his wife, Trish, for 23 years and together they have three beautiful children, Heather 22, Meagan 20 and D.J. 15. Doyle has worked hard for his family and community by serving on the City Council, District 12, from 1999- 2003. During this time he worked hard for small businesses knowing the issues they have firsthand with paying payroll, taxes and government regulations. He co-sponsored a bill for extra homestead for seniors and worked hard to grow Cecil Field Aviation and Commerce Center for infrastructure and moving the time frame of road connection to I-10 to create jobs in our district and city. He also voted all four years of his term to lower millage rates which lowered taxes. Doyle did not seek re-election in 2003 because he wanted to spend more time with his children in their younger years and also in his business. Doyle feels the time is right to return to public service as the city needs experienced leadership and leaders who have experienced the tough economic times. He has served on the board of the Justice Coalition, Board of the Center of Independent Living, the Westside Kiwanis Club, Citizen Planning Advisor Committee, the Hyde Park Masonic Lodge, Morocco Shrine, the Westside Republican Club, the Westside Business Leaders, Westside Civic Association, NRA and past board member of Normandy and Marietta Athletic Associations. Also he has coached at Normandy, Marietta, Whitehouse, Baldwin Middle/High School and was the Head Coach of Softball at Paxon School for Advanced Studies. Doyle wants it to be said if you want to live in the best city in America you will have to move to Jacksonville, Florida. doyle.carter13@comcast.net www.doylecarter.com
