Candidate: Jamey Michael King

It is both an honor and a privilege to announce my candidacy for Sheriff of Dixie County. My name is Jamey Michael King and I am 39 years old. I am a life-long resident of Dixie County. My parents are Gary (Marinda) King of Cross City and Rene (Danny) Futch-Hoffman of Steinhatchee. I have eagerly worked toward running for Sheriff of Dixie County for over 15 years, constantly striving to further my knowledge, education and experience. Giving back to the community that I love so dearly is the reason I chose this career path. I first began my career in public service as a Correctional Officer with the Florida Department of Corrections from 2000-2003. In 2001, I put myself through law enforcement training at Central Florida Community College in Ocala, while working a full-time job for 8 hours on midnight shift and attending school for 8 hours throughout the day. My dedication and determination to becoming a Law Enforcement Officer never wavered. 

For over 10 years, I have had the privilege of protecting and patrolling Dixie County as a full-time Deputy Sheriff (as well as, on the Reserve Unit more recently) with the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff’s Sammy Woodall and Dewey H. Hatcher, Sr. During this time, I have been involved in various roles and positions within the department. I had the privilege of serving as a K-9 Officer for over 9 years and promoted to the rank of Sergeant. 

In 2007, I was named “Law Enforcement Officer of the Year” by Sheriff Dewey H. Hatcher, Sr. Also, in 2007, I was deputized as a Special Deputy by the United States Marshal Service to assist in Operation F.A.L.C.O.N., which I continued to assist with throughout my career. In 2008, I was honored with an Award by United States Attorney Stephen M. Kunz for my hard work procuring a Federal Indictment on an Individual for Conspiracy to Distribute or Possess with the Intent to Distribute more than 5 kilograms of Cocaine. I also have countless Letters of Accommodation from other Sheriffs, Attorney’s, State and Federal Agencies for assistance with Homicide Investigations, Boating Death Investigations, Fugitive Apprehension and more. Some of you may remember my work ethic being unparalleled. I have worked hand-in-hand assisting with undercover operations, specialized investigations, recovery operations and clandestine investigations with the Drug Task Force, Property Crimes Investigators and the Dive Team. I have always believed that a hard stance on Drug Abuse, Manufacturing and Sales is the key to reducing other crimes such as Burglary/Thefts and Violent Crimes. It is my promise to you that this will be a priority for me. We will have a ZERO TOLERANCE policy on Drugs. I also believe that training is essential in providing the citizens of this County with the service they deserve. During my career, I have received specialized training in Rescue and Recovery Diving, Tactical Drug Law Enforcement, Commercial Motor Vehicle Drug and Terrorist Interdiction, Tactical K-9, Drug Detection K-9, Instructor Techniques (allowing me to instruct others), Interviews and Interrogation Techniques, and Incident Command training, to name a few. 

I have a lifetime of knowledge regarding both state and federal laws. My 15 years plus of law enforcement has fully prepared me to be your next Sheriff of Dixie County. I will use my experience and law enforcement knowledge to be the Sheriff that you deserve. It will be my mission to serve the people of Dixie County with the highest regard for the Constitution of the United States and the State of Florida. I am committed to being pro-active in preventing crime before it happens and the protection of the constitutional rights of all citizens of Dixie County including your Right to Bear Arms! Throughout my career, those who prepared me to become Sheriff, have alway led by example, as will I. Communication is key to preventing and solving crime, so I will always work diligently and professionally with all law enforcements officers and agencies, and most importantly with the citizens to assure that Dixie County is the safest place to live and raise our children. 

I am the father of a handsome, sweet and well-mannered 6 year old boy, named Kelby King and I couldn’t imagine raising him anywhere other than Dixie County. I am very involved in my sons education and extra-curricular activities. I am a member of Jena First Baptist Church. The majority of my leisure time is spent involved in family activities. I enjoy hunting and fishing with my family and my friends. As I travel throughout Dixie County over the next several months, I look forward to visiting with as many citizens as possible. I will meet with as many of you as possible to share with you my goals/mission as Sheriff and listen to your concerns.
