Candidate's Statement

James McCall, Jr., is a retired veteran of the United States Army and a resident of Vernon, FL for the past 17 years is seeking to be your county commissioner for district 3. James is a 1972 graduate of Walton High School. After graduating he enlisted into the United States Army where he served duties statewide as Germany, Kuwait and Somalia. While in the Army, James supervised a troop of 165 personnel and managed a budget of 2 million dollars for 7 years. He also earned a specialization in reversed osmosis water purification, which enabled him to clean water individuals living in third world countries. James also obtained training as a weapons instructor and a law enforcement instructor for concealed weapons. He earned the awards of the Bronze Star, The Legion of Merit, Airborne Course, and Air Assault during his service. James retired with the rank of E-8 First Sergeant after 23 years of being a soldier. After retiring from the military James decided to make a career change into security and worked at the Department of the Navy as a security officer for 10 years in Panama City Beach, FL. He is currently retired from the Navy Base and is spending his time working in church and local organizations which he is a member of. James has been married to Eva Potter McCall, of Vernon, FL for more than 40 years. They have 2 children; Donna (Jamal) Ingram of Panama City Beach, FL and James McCall of Vernon, FL. They also have three grandchildren; Montoya McCall, Malik Sheppard, and Jaki McCall. James is an active member of the Church of Christ in Vernon, FL where he serves as a Deacon and Assistant Pastor. He also dedicates his time through membership with the National Rifle Association and the Buffalo Soldiers, which is a local organization of African American motorcyclists who serve the community through charity and fundraising opportunities. James is running in the local election as a Republican. In being county commissioner he is hoping to be a voice for his community. He is passionate about making district 3 a better place to live for his family and the future generations to come. In the 2016 election, Vote for a Veteran! Vote for James McCall, Jr.
