Candidate: Ken Cutler

Ken has been the Commissioner elected to Parkland's District 3 since 2016. From 2017 to 2018 he served as Deputy Vice Mayor and then from November 2018 to November 2019 he served the City in the capacity of Vice Mayor. 

Ken was born and raised in Hollywood, Florida. He graduated from Hollywood Hills High School, the University of Florida, and Nova Law School.

Ken is a licensed Florida attorney, litigating cases in both State and Federal Courts since 1986, concentrating in personal injury law as a founding member of the Cutler Rader, PL law firm. He proudly serves as an AV Pre-eminent Martindale-Hubbell rated member of the Florida Bar. Ken and his family moved to the Cypresshead development in Parkland in 1997 and their children attended Riverglades Elementary School, Westglades Middle School, and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland.

Community Involvement

Ken enjoys giving back to the community and has served on the Board of the B’nai B’rith Apartments of Deerfield Beach which provides housing for the elderly.  He also has served as a Broward County Teen Court Judge for over 20 years and has been a coach for youth sports and a scout leader.

Ken first became active in the Parkland community when he joined the Parkland Friends of the Library in 1998 and, the following year, he appeared before the City Commission and encouraged them to build a new library for Parkland.  During the next four years, Ken served on the Library Building Committee and devoted countless hours leading the planning and preparation for the new library.  He was also instrumental in the move into the new library building and improving the new library by acquisition of the plate glass window leading into the children’s area and the bronze sculpture on the lawn.

On June 3, 2003, Ken led the Parkland Friends of the Library in the dedication and grand opening of the Parkland Library at its present location and helped the City cut the ribbon and open the doors.  In 2004, the Parkland Friends of the Library instituted the highly successful “Pave the Way to Reading” program to raise funds for the expansion of the patio of the library.  On November 3, 2004, he hosted the grand opening of the new outdoor library patio and, along with the City Commission and then State Representative Martin Kiar, cut the ribbon opening the patio.

Ken has also led diverse community partnership programs with the Parkland Historical Society.  On April 8, 2014, he hosted an engagement with James Weiss, the local Parkland author of “The History of Parkland, Florida,” and several long-time Parkland residents.  This educational event served to bring the history of Parkland to life.  Ken then became interested in discovering more about the “Holmberg” of Holmberg Road.  After rigorous investigation and research, he presented “The Mystery of Holmberg Road: Solved” on October 14, 2014, at an event attended by over 100 people.  Ken even tracked down John L. Holmberg’s granddaughters who attended the event and were presented with proclamations by the City and Broward County.

Ken led the Friends and the Parkland Historical Society in researching and recovering artifacts taken from Parkland’s Margate Blount Archaeological Site.  He personally tracked down photographs, relics, and an extensive number of documents to secure Parkland’s archaeological history.  He helped organize the Parkland Library display of those materials and was pivotal in bringing the history of our city back to its citizens.

In 2018, after the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman High School, Ken led the City and the Parkland Historical Society in recovering the memorial artifacts from the school and Pine Trails Park in an effort to preserve and protect the items for our City. He and the other Commissioners, together with an outstanding staff of dedicated City employees were committed to the recovery and resilience of the Parkland citizenry.
