Candidate: Donna Storter Long

 Dear Interested Voter,

Thank you for taking time to learn about my background.  

I have resided in Glades County 52 years and attended public schools in LaBelle, Moore Haven, and Edison College [now FSW] in Fort Myers. I am married to JC Long and we have resided in Ortona for 22 years. 

My employment background is office management and financial accounting, but I don't just crunch numbers, I connect the dots using logical thinking in all situations.  I'm very organized, I plan for contingencies, I do my homework, and I'm fair.

Before Glades County Voters elected me County Commissioner in 2006, I was appointed by the Governor in 2004. I had previously served as member of Glades County Local Planning Agency, director on Glades County Economic Development Council, Senior Connections, and Caloosa Humane Society, as well as regularly attending County Commission meetings representing my community association and taking agenda notes for my employer.

Now I represent Glades County on Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council, 20th Judicial Circuit Juvenile Justice Advisory Council, Lee Memorial Trauma Advisory Council, Heartland Library Cooperative, Transportation Disadvantaged [think: GoodWheels], and Public Risk Management-the broker for all County insurance. I also serve as Treasurer for Ortona Community Association.  I'm still a member of Glades EDC and member of First Christian Church in LaBelle where I serve as pianist.

During my 12+ years as Glades County Commissioner, I have been  proudly involved with projects completed by the county including:

   * Glades County Public Health facility

   * Glades County Emergency Operations Center

   * Glades Regional Training Center

   * Community Center in Washington Park

   * Community Center, Park/Playground in Ortona

   * Playground in Muse

   * In 2008, I was instrumental in helping get Pearce Canal opened for boat traffic.

But when asked what has the Board accomplished that I am most proud to be part of, I am reminded that in 2004, I brought to the Commission the concept (and initial funding) for a memorial pavilion at Ortona Cemetery.  {The benches were not my selection however!}

Availing myself of continuing education, I achieved Certified Advanced County Commissioner through Florida Association of Counties and UF/IFAS.

I have always been the voice and advocate for my constituents in their concerns with county-related issues.

Now, as senior member of the commission, my experience enables me to connect our past achievements with our future goals.  I have served as Chair and Vice Chair and have the background and insight to responsibly deal with all county matters.
