When the people of Walton County elect me to the Walton Board of County of Commissioners, District 4, I will focus on two main issues. The first issue is to attract new private sector jobs. In order to keep Walton County unique, we must bring high paying jobs and make Walton County a place where people will continue to build successful lives and families. The BCC needs to support existing small businesses and farmers while promoting strategic growth county wide. Available resources must be managed effectively to promote necessary services and infrastructure countywide. These decisions must be made in a responsible and transparent manner. The Second issue involves protecting our local economy by preserving our Beach and Bay. My life and career have been shaped by the Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. My family’s restaurant sits on a beautiful strip of the Choctawhatchee Bay, where families have been dining on fresh Seafood for the past sixty years. Much of the seafood sold by both of my businesses, Nick’s Seafood Restaurant and TreyBayCrabs, comes straight from the Choctawhatchee Bay. Fresh crabs, shrimp, and fish are harvested by myself and the many area fishermen who sell their daily catch to my businesses. Walton County’s uniqueness rests on our abilities to protect these resources. Our economy relies on a healthy Beach and Bay for jobs and rising property values countywide. The BCC needs a countywide strategy to address storm water management issues. The Walton Board of County Commissioners also need to defend Customary Use and protect the public’s right to use the Beach and the Bay.
I have been married to my wife Jennifer for twenty years. We have two children, Aubree and Cade. Jennifer is currently a School Administrator, Aubree is a Junior at Freeport High School, and Cade is in the 6th grade at Freeport Middle School. Jennifer and I took over my family’s restaurant, Nick’s Seafood Restaurant, January 1,1998 and opened our wholesale seafood business, TreyBayCrabs, in 2003. I do much of our own fishing, crabbing, and shrimping. I also sell to the public and many local restaurants. I am proud to be a sponsor of The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance where I am able to participate in helping to preserve the natural waterways in Walton County. I am also a sponsor and active supporter of the Autism Spectrum on the Emerald Coast, Inc. I have been a mentor with the Take Stock in Children Program in Walton County Schools for the past ten years. My wife and I are sponsors of the KIWANIS Club of Freeport and South Walton, Freeport Youth Sports, Freeport High School Sports, Freeport Middle School Sports, Freeport Elementary, and the Walton County School District.
I will approach this new position with the energy and enthusiasm that my fellow Walton County citizens have observed from me in my business and civic endeavors over my entire adult life.
