Candidate: Mary Jane Henderson

JUDGE MARY JANE HENDERSON Mary Jane Henderson has served as County Court Judge for Volusia County since her election in 1990 and now is in her fourth term. Over nearly 20 years, she has presided over criminal and civil divisions in DeLand and New Smyrna Beach and now hears civil and traffic cases in Daytona Beach. Prior to becoming a judge she was in private practice for ten years in New Smyrna Beach. During this time she was appointed or elected to a number of positions in service to the bar and the public including President of Volusia County Bar Association, President of Florida Association for Women Lawyers, director of Central Florida Legal Services, attorney for the Guardian ad Litem program, member of Seventh Judicial Circuit Nominating Committee, city attorney for Edgewater and Oak Hill, and member of Legal Advisory Committee for Volusia County Charter Review Commission. As a Judge, Henderson has been active in the Florida Conference of County Court Judges serving on the Education and Small Claims Rules Committees. Judge Henderson is very much involved in community activities including singing with the Bel Canto Singers of Daytona Beach and with the Coronado Community United Methodist Church choir in New Smyrna Beach. She has been active in the NSB High School Barracuda Band Patrons Association for a number of years and every fall works the chains on the sidelines at the NSBHS home football games. She served for 2 years on the Volusia County Human Services Advisory Board and currently volunteers for Stewart Marchman Act Corporation in their WARM program. Judge Henderson has a degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama and a law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. She has been married for over 29 years to Clay Henderson and they have two children, Craig and Ardis.
