Candidate: Shirley Groover Bryant

Shirley Groover Bryant is a native of Palmetto, Florida and is a graduate of Palmetto High School, Manatee Community College and Florida Southern College. Mayor Bryant worked for fifteen years at the Manatee County Property Appraiser’s Office as the Senior Staff Accountant and Community and Employee Affairs Coordinator, and has served as the Chief Financial Officer for Manatee School for the Arts, a public charter school in Palmetto. Mayor Bryant served as the Ward 2 representative on the City of Palmetto City Council from 1993 to 2004 and was elected to a four-year term as Mayor of the City of Palmetto on November 4, 2008, taking office on November 17, 2008 and was re-elected without opposition in 2012. In 2016, Mayor Bryant was elected to a third term without opposition. Shirley has two grown sons: Patrick, a local attorney, and Christopher, an environmental consultant.
