Candidate: Xtavia K. Bailey

Xtavia Bailey, is originally from Bridgeport,Connecticut but has lived here in Manatee County since she was nine years old. She is a product of the Manatee County Schools,graduating from Manatee high. Her Aunt Mary Sharon Owens taught school and retired from Manatee County Schools. Her aunt always pushed her to do well in school but most of all give back. Xtavia’s education includes an A.S. Medical Assisting and a B.A. Criminal Justice from Keiser University. Master\'s in Criminal Justice Leadership. She also attended SCF, formally known as MCC and is a graduate of the MTI\'s Police Academy. She is married to Edward Bailey,a former Sgt. in the United States Marine Corps.,they share two children Amara Bailey age 14 and Edward Bailey Jr. age 11 who attend Manatee County Schools. Her youngest sister of four girls Syesha Mercado was an American Idol finalist, who attended Manatee county schools and feels her talents and education were enhanced and encouraged through the Manatee County schools system. Goal: Educate our Children, Empower our Teachers and Staff and Engage our Community. Her plans are to achieve this through conservative leadership, accountability,fiscal responsibility,and transparency,ensuring that the children and families whom desire an education are provided an opportunity to achieve success through a great Educational system. Qualifications: Xtavia has dedicated her time and talents here in Manatee County for over 15 years. Her classroom experience, nonprofit, and corporate financial background,shows she is the most versed candidate. Xtavia,continually advocates for children\'s safety, early childhood education development, and the opportunity for a better future. She was recently appointed to the Family Safety Alliance board that oversees community based care for providers of children welfare services in three counties. She has mentored many children and inspired them to go on and achieve their own goals. She has served and worked with numerous organizations in several capacities focusing on helping children achieve success. She has classroom experience and has worked with many volunteers, support staff, and teachers in the district. Her dedication and passion for empowering children, families, and the love for serving her community qualifies her to be the best candidate for the District 1 School Board Seat. Work Experience: Currently Co-Owner of Exb Inc. She is the former Florida Regional Director of the NFL\'s Hall of Famer Jim Brown\'s Amer-I-Can Life Skills and anti-gang program. The program consisted of five middle schools here in Manatee and eight high schools between South Brevard and Hillsborough. In addition to being the Regional Director, she also facilitated the classes at her home school Sugg middle for four years teaching the responsibility of self-determination curriculum and two years overseeing the program out of the classroom. She also trained staff, evaluated every school\'s program by preparing quarterly outcomes, and yearly statistics. This role required numerous and varied skills-sets such as fiscal management, marketing, public relations, classroom management, community engagement, and grant writing. She is the former Director of the Bradenton Boys & Girls Club.
