Candidate: Martha Barrett

Martha Barrett grew up in Jacksonville and has dedicated much of her professional career to community and public service with a strong emphasis on public education. She was elected to the Duval County School Board in 2009 and previously served on the board from 2000 to 2008. Martha is currently a Senior Vice President at Bank of America. Martha was a top aide to former Mayor Jake Godbold. Martha is a strong supporter of teachers, believes in increased discipline in schools and strongly supports increased reading instruction. Through her board service there has been increased access to all student for academic programs, strategic partnerships with the private sector have been forged and graduation rates have increased. Martha strongly believes in accountability and she has been a leader in working with her fellow board members to create a collaborative team focused on student achievement. She is a graduate of Leadership Jacksonville and Leadership Florida. She has been endorsed by JaxBiz, an affiliate of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, Duval Teachers United and the Northeast Florida Homebuilders Association. She holds a Masters Degree in Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.
