Candidate: Gene Murtha

Statement

My reason for running for State Committeman is that my Republican leadership background will make me extremely effective in addressing  the issues, needs and opinions of Republicans of this county with the State Party (RPOF).  I have been serving the Republican Party of Charlotte County since moving to Punta Gorda in the early 2000s.  I became a member and served  on the Board then President of the Charlotte County Republican Club. I also became active in the Republican Executive Committee, first as a Precinct Committeeman, then as Treasurer and ultimately I served  most recently as Chair of the Republican Party of Charlotte County (REC). I have run many , successful party events including record-breaking Lincoln Day functions and voter rally’s.  

I have played a prominent role in elections, leading the efforts in South Charlotte County in 2016 to get President Trump elected to the Presidency and later, as party chair, heading the effort to getting a record voter turnout for Trump in Charlotte County in 2020. Charlotte County played a major role in helping win the state for Trump in 2020.  Moreover, I have consistently supported and promoted the election of effective, conservative Republicans for leadership roles in the County. 

Business Background

I have a strong business background having been both an executive in the Retail Industry for over 35 years and later running my own successful, global consulting firm, which involved advising leaders in the retail industry.  I hold a a masters degree from University of Pennsylvania in Organizational Dynamics.

During the 20 plus years living in the County, I have been heavily involved in the community including being:

organizer of many major community events including for example a Founders Week Celebration and a 125th anniversary of the city event 
past member of several advisory boards for the city and county
