Candidate's Statement

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me. My name is Adam Lane Perez. I’ve been a resident of Brevard County for 12 years, all of which have been spent in District 4. I began my education in this county at Suntree Elementary, followed by my enrollment in Ascension Catholic Middle School. I graduated from Satellite Beach High School in 2007 and from Brevard Community College with an Associate in Arts in 2009. I am currently commuting to the University of Central Florida, in pursuance of a dual degree in Civil and Construction Engineering with a minor in Mathematics. For the past three years I have been employed by the Suntree YMCA Family Center, where I have been able to meet many inspiring and passionate citizens who have been able to give me a true sense of community. Since working there I have found great joy in serving the public. I saw how taking the time to work with someone and giving them positive input can change their life for the better and bring them sincere happiness. Working with individuals and families is what inspired me to take my community involvement much deeper. I pride myself on not being a politician; I am a concerned citizen that wants to see the government be there for its people and not take advantage of them. I believe that the government should answer to the people, first and foremost. Government should not serve private interests. Additionally the government should strictly maintain a size necessary for it to comfortably handle the needs of the public. As the government meets these needs, it is important for it to remain diverse with professionals from all different sectors of business. Thus, the government will be able to make informed decision on matters that require different areas of expertise to answer. Since I have not participated on any boards, haven’t created any alliances with large business executives nor have I a business of my own, I feel that I will not find myself in a conflict of interest which will jeopardize my integrity as a public servant. Also, without these potential distractions I can focus my energy and skills solely on the commission. Yes, I am one of the younger candidates but I am enthusiastic and full of energy which I will use to get the job done right. I’m looking forward to working with county staff and Brevard County citizens to bring public relations to a whole new level. My top goals as a commissioner: • Do everything I can to support the welfare of our community • Appoint citizens with exceptional moral & ethical standards to the County’s advisory boards • Make county government a pleasant experience when having to be dealt with • Focus on outsourcing services that can be reliably ran in the private sector • Promote economic development while respecting our environmental resources • Gain and maintain the respect of our community as a public servant that reports solely to the people of Brevard I will make you proud, Brevard. Thank you, take care, and God bless.
