Candidate: Deryl Loar

Sheriff Deryl Loar is proud to officially announced his bid for re-election for the Office of Sheriff in Indian River County! Since assuming office in January 2009, Sheriff Loar has pursued his 2008 campaign objectives to best serve the residents of Indian River County. “We have constantly worked hard to meet the needs of the ever changing demands and trends that are placed on law enforcement. I am extremely proud of our agency and the accomplishments that we have made! My desire is to lead this agency for many years.” As we continue to navigate through these difficult economic conditions, I know that this agency has been “re-positioned” to survive in difficult times. Under Loar\'s leadership, the Sheriff\'s office has reduced its budget every year – totaling nearly 3 million dollars in reductions. Sheriff Loar cites some of the major accomplishments that the Sheriff\'s Office has made while under his command to include major improvements in the county jail that ultimately led to the facility being recognized by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC). Thirty-six of the sixty-seven county jails are FCAC recognized. “The FCAC accreditation process brought the standards and integrity of that component to an extremely high level, this accomplishment was long over due!” Sheriff Loar is also extremely proud of the recent recognition by the Commission on Law Enforcement Accreditation (CALEA). CALEA has designated our agency as a “flagship agency” - One of only 4 agencies in the State of Florida. CALEA Flagship is the “gold standard” for law enforcement agencies to achieve. This achievement is one that most agencies desire. Additionally, Sheriff Loar recognized that the Sheriff\'s Office needed to be more involved with local non-profit social service agencies. His philosophy is that if his agency can have successful relationships and assist them in their endeavors, the entire community will benefit. Sheriff Loar is 43 years old and has been marred to his wife, Dr. Jennifer Loar for nearly 22 years. They are raising their two young boys in beautiful Vero Beach. Contact information :
