Candidate's Statement

Carol Whitmore was born in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. She moved to Manatee County in 1969. Carol supported herself while attending school since the age of 15 and has lived on Anna Maria Island since then. Carol became a nurse in 1977 and worked at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Critical Care until being promoted by the Hospital Administrator as Director of Physician Relations. Carol was then promoted to Director of Risk Management. In 1991, Carol joined Manatee Springs as the RN Admissions Coordinator. She served as City Commissioner of Holmes Beach 1991-1998. She was elected Mayor of Holmes Beach in 1998. Carol worked simultaneously as a nurse & Physician\'s surgical office Manager for at one time, three surgeons until she was elected Commissioner-At-Large in 2006. Carol and her husband, Dr. Andre Renard, have four children and a grand total of eight grandkids between them. Her daughter, Janae, and son-in-law live on Anna Maria. Andre’s children and grandchildren visit often. Carol graduated from -Manatee High School in 1973. -Graduated from MTI as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1977 -Graduated from SCF with an A.S. Licensed Registered Nurse since 1982. -Certified Health Care Risk Manager 1988-2006. Carol\'s public service to Manatee County includes: -Board of County Commissioners, Elected November 2006 -Chairman of BCC, 2011 -Chairman of Port Manatee, 2013, 2014 -Past Chair of Manatee County Civic Center Authority -Chair of Tourist Development Council 2009-2013 -Past Member of Sarasota Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Member, 2008 Environmental Lands Management Action Committee (ELMAC) Currently appointed to Gulf Consortium regarding BP Oil spill by Manatee County. Serves on the State Medical Examiners Commission Appointed by Governor Rick Scott, 2013 Other public/community involvement: Holmes Beach City Commissioner 1991-1998 Mayor of the City of Holmes Beach 1998-2006 Community Manatee County Food Bank Advisory Committee, Member Manatee Opportunity Council, Past Board Member Manatee Heart Association, Past Board Member Children\'s Services, Past Board Member START (Solutions To Avoid Red Tide), Past Board Member & President of Aids Council of Manatee, American Red Cross Board of Directors United Way Board of Directors Families Against Addictive Drug Abuse (FAADA), Advisory Board Member Meals on Wheels Advisory Council Healthy Teens Coalition of Manatee County Member of Elder Abuse Team with the State Attorney Member of Animal Abuse Team with the State Attorney Member of Crime Stoppers Founder and Chairman of Animal Coalition Carol was recognized by the -Manatee Veteran\'s Council for coordinating construction of the Veteran\'s Monument located behind Manatee Memorial Hospital. Carol Whitmore is the only non-veteran whose name appears on the monument. -Manatee County Area Transit for coordinating and implementing the Island Trolley. -City of Bradenton Beach for her support in securing much needed grants for the City. A bench has been dedicated in her name. -Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Team presented Carol with the Community Hero Award 2012. - NAACP in 2012, give the Louise Rogers Johnson Humanitarian Award (Presented during the Martin King, Jr., Banquet). -AIDS Council awarded Carol with the Keeper of the Flame Award. She served on the first Board of Directors for the Manatee County Aids Council. “I believe that my role as County Commissioner is to represent the citizens and be a voice for the voiceless.” Our Citizens deserve the best quality of life where they can raise their families for all to enjoy Manatee County. Jobs are very important to our Community and providing quality neighborhoods to raise our families. My commitment is to push job creation that pay higher than the average wages, push job creation in North County where unemployment is high and to recruit companies or assist the businesses here to expand their workforce. Port Manatee is an untapped resource for job creation that is on the verge of providing 100\'s, if not 1,000\'s of jobs in the near future with the dev. of lands across from the Port for Port related jobs. Citizens deserve to be able to talk to their Commissioner. My policy has always been to answer my own emails and returned calls personally. We work for you!
