Candidate’s Statement

Rodney was born and raised in Melbourne, Florida.  After graduating from Melbourne High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of seventeen (17).  After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Marine Corps, he attended California State University Los Angeles (Cal State LA) and University of Phoenix (UOP) where he received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration.  After graduation, Rodney relocated back to Florida to attend Florida A&M University College of Law, where he graduated 13th in his class.  In 2018, Rodney began the pursuit of additional education at Florida Institute of Technology where he received his Master of Public Administration (MPA) graduating with a 4.0 GPA, in 2021.

Rodney began his legal career as a Legal Assistant for Attorney Damon E. Martin at the Law Office of Damon E. Martin located in Los Angeles, CA, where the practice focused on Criminal and Civil Defense as well as Family Law.  While in Law School he had the opportunity to work for the Orlando Police Department (OPD) Legal Advisors Office where he worked on Florida Contraband Forfeiture cases, City Ordinance violation cases, Police Officer legal training.  During his final semester of law school, Rodney had the opportunity to Clerk for 9th Circuit Court Judge Reginald Whitehead on a Criminal and Drug Court Docket.  Following law school, Rodney worked for the Law Office of Muller & Sommerville in Winter Park, Florida where he worked on State and Federal criminal cases and Administrative Law issues.  In 2010, Rodney opened his private practice in which he focused on Criminal Defense, Family Law, Real Estate Law, Creditor/Debtor Law, and Personal Injury.

Rodney currently serves as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Palm Bay and has been employed with the city since January 2017.  His current focus is the area of City, County, Local Government Law including Tort Litigation Defense on behalf of the City of Palm Bay, Real Estate Litigation, and other areas of Civil Litigation.

Rodney has four amazing children, his second oldest daughter recently graduated from Stetson University College of Law and his youngest daughter will be graduating from high school this June.
