Candidate's Statement

ELECT A TEACHER! IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE!

Our community is at a crossroads in education and we need a representative with "boots on the ground" experience. When our current representative was elected four years ago, we had seven "A" rated schools in North Brevard, District 1. Today we have ZERO! She talked about change, but this is not the change we wanted. It's time to have a strong advocate for our North Area on the School Board. We as a community, cannot afford to let another four years go by without a change for the better.

David Meader was born in Hollywood, Florida. He moved with his family to Cocoa in 1977, where he graduated from Cocoa High School in 1979. He then attended Brevard Community College, graduating with an Associate in Arts Degree and later, University of Central Florida with a Bachelor's Degree. David worked for Sears, Roebuck and Company in Rockledge, Merritt Island, Titusville and North Carolina for a combined 16 years.

He earned his Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education, Social Science, grades 6-12, in 2003 and subsequently began a teaching career at Andrew Jackson Middle School in Titusville, FL as a History and Civics Teacher. David has been teaching in the Cambridge program since its inception at Jackson Middle School. David has served as both the Teacher’s Representative on the School Advisory Council and as the Chairman of the Council. From 2005-2015, he was the Social Studies Department Chairperson and the Brevard Federation of Teacher's Building Representative from 2011-2015. As well as being on the BFT Advisory Board, serving as Area Director, from 2014-2017.

In 1987, David married Karen Brietzke, Regional Program Manager for the Petco Foundation. Karen was born on Merritt Island and attended Audubon, Jefferson and Merritt Island High School. Together, they started a family and built a home in Port St. John, raising their daughter and son, until 2016 when they made the move to Titusville.
