Candidate: Sharon Byrd Roberts

Hello, my name is Sharon Byrd Roberts. Many of you know me but, for those of you I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet I would like to tell you about myself. I am your School Board Member for District 3. I am the daughter of Earl and Ruby Byrd of Pt. Washington Fl. My mother is the Media Aide at Butler Elementary School. I am married to Richard (Rick) L. Roberts and we have one son. Rick Jr. is 12 years old and attends Emerald Coast Middle School. I have one sister, Teresa Lowery, who is a fifth grade teacher at Maude Saunders Elementary School. I graduated in 1995 from Freeport High School. I graduated from the Walton Career Development Center in the first practical nursing program Walton County ever offered! I am a licensed practical nurse. I became the bookkeeper at the then “new” Emerald Coast Middle School. After 2 years of service to the school district I ran for School Board Member. When I was elected in 2006 I promised you that with each and every decision “I will keep the most important thing in mind, the Children!” I have done that! I brought budget and finance experience to the board table! I have been conservative with your tax dollars! I can honestly say to you that I can relate to the issues that face our schools from every prospective. I can see the district through the eyes of the students, parents, employees, family of the employee, and as a board member. I have had the rare opportunity to experience this first hand! As a lifelong resident I have a vested interest in Walton County and its Children! All four years I have been in office I have served as the School Boards Legislative Liaison. The past four years have flown by! Even though I have faced many challenges being your School Board member, I have really enjoyed the opportunity to represent you!
