Candidate's Statement

I LOVE WALTON COUNTY! I am George Wallace \"Wally\" Smith. I am not a professional politician nor have I ever sought to be one. I am just one of many, who believes government at all levels can and should be better. I am seeking the office of County Commissioner because I believe an informed and engaged public is the surest and best way of encouraging government to do what we want and not to do what we don\'t want. I am aware of the importance of being available in person which is why I encourage and practice open door and open dialog policies. I want to be your messenger. As commissioner I will go to every end to make sure you are informed. You will not only know what government has done, but also what it is considering doing. Government affects us all: from the Court House to the White House, the laws made and the consequences of those laws impact our family lives, our business lives and the lives our children\'s.... Shouldn\'t our courthouse be more user friendly? Elect me, George Wallace \"Wally\" Smith as Commissioner for District 5 and together we can keep this paradise we call home (Walton County) preserved and beautiful while preparing it for the future. Comments or concerns? Please feel free to contact me at Cell Phone # (850) 699-7543 georgewallace56@aol.com George Wallace \"Wally\" Smith has an uncommon desire to serve the common man. With your vote and as your Commissioner, he will do so with his \"Eight Point Platform for a Better Walton County.\" ■Responsible and fair development policies NO changing rules in mid-game! ■Maximum freedom for residents from bureaucratic interference ■Responsible stewardship of public lands ( including parks, boat ramps, etc.) ■Moratorium on local option tax adaption during tough economic times ■Development of meaningful public / private partnerships for delivery of services, and privatization of those services where practical ■Fewer consultants and consulting contracts. Fully utilize county staff before resorting to the use of expensive consultants and over priced out of town attorneys ■Advanced infrastructure planning including acquisition of right of ways before a crisis erupts, and just as important, while those properties are available at a reasonable price ■Regular detailed reports to voters in print and on the internet along with all related documents
