Candidate's Statement

RICK BROWN, FOR WALTON COUNTY SHERIFF RICK BROWN WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE TO AND RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS DEPUTIES; HE HAS BEEN WHERE THEY ARE. THE DEPUTIES CAN DEPEND ON RICK BROWN FOR HIS KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE. HE KNOWS THE VALUE OF AN APPROACHABLE LEADER AND HE WILL LEAD THIS SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO A PROFESSIONAL LEVEL WE CAN ALL BE PROUD OF. GOALS Communications: I will answer all calls. I will be available for the public, the news media and all employees. Regular meetings will be advertised and I will be there. I know the importance of listening. I will ask questions until I gather enough information to make a good decision. Accountability: I will be accountable for the actions of all employees of the department and will have qualified administrators who will also be held accountable for their departments. Responsibility: A Sheriff must “lead by example”. I will be responsible for all that occurs in my office. Responsibility walks “hand in hand” with accountability. If one is missing, the other is not effective. I encourage deputies to value their responsibility to the public and be proud of it. As fully trained deputies who remember their oath to “serve and protect” these men and women will be approachable by the public and will be ready and willing to help residents at all times. Due to recent activities in the financial department I will make it a priority to place the best Certified Public Accountants and other administrative personnel in the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. Accreditation: The Walton County Sheriff’s Office will be accredited. This will require all divisions to follow the same policies, procedures and guidelines. An accreditation team will formed. They will take the THREE day state course and will be certified as Accreditation Instructors. I will take the same courses. Together this team and I will start this lengthy procedure within my first year of office. Through my experience in this matter with Fort Walton Beach Police Department, I know it to take approximately 2 years of concentrated effort. Supervision: I will place qualified personnel I can depend on in positions of authority. These people will be responsible for their departments including their budget. These fully trained individuals will possess good morals, high ethics and people skills along with job familiarity. They will be available to those they supervise as well as the public and will “lead by example”. Community involvement is imperative to reach the common goals of all involved. These goals are to serve and protect our residents, to suppress crime, incarcerate and impose sentencing on criminals that do not obey the laws set forth by our state, county and local government. Together you and I can raise the level of the Walton County Sheriff’s Office to one we can all be proud of.
