Candidate: Zuma L. Banks

NEWS RELEASE: Zuma L. Banks is a candidate for the position of Republican State Committeewoman. She was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and attended public schools there. She graduated from Emory University earning a BA in psychology, and she then went to Georgia State University where she obtained an MBA in management. She remained in Georgia after college. She and her family vacationed in Walton County for ten years and then bought property here in 1997. Their home was completed in 1999 and she was fortunate to be able to move here permanently three and a half years ago. Personal background: She has been married to Rafe Banks for 34 years and is the mother of 4 children, Rafe, Taylor, Jonathan and Emily. She taught Sunday School for 7 years, has served on the Board of Directors of The Family Haven (battered women’s shelter), the Board of Directors of The United Way of Forsyth County (2 terms) and was Chairman of the allocations committee of The United Way. She has also served as chairman of a Local School Advisory Committee and was PTO president. She was President of the Sawnee Woman’s Club and served a term on the Board of Visitors for Emory University. Political Environment: She has been a Poll worker and clerk at Walton County precinct 34. She is a member and treasurer of the 30A Republican Club, member of the Walton Republican Women, Federated and is a member of the Walton County Republican Executive Committee. She also assisted her husband in his two successful races for District Attorney. She feels the position of Republican State Committeewoman would allow her to act as a liaison between the Walton County and the State Republican Parties. She is committed to (1) being the voice of conservative Walton County to Party Leaders (2) working to maintain party neutrality in republican primaries (3) being available by phone and available to meet with any registered republican to discuss party activities and (4) being an active participant in party fund raising, party organizations and grass root party efforts.
