Candidate's Statement

As a native South Walton Countian, I have been concerned about the South Walton Mosquito Control as of late. My father, Ed Walline, was a founding father of this organization, and dedicated much of his time, efforts, and even donating property for the purpose of digging ditches to try and reduce the Mosquito problem here. At one time, the problem was extremely great, in so much that the cattle they tried to raise couldn’t survive. We now enjoy the fruits of their labors, and many have moved to South Walton as the area is considerably more habitable. We have enjoyed a relatively light Mosquito/pest problem the past couple of years due to drought conditions. I feel that we don’t need to be lulled into complacency and think this has been a normal condition. We still need to be on guard, and prepared for a normal rainy season. From what I have ascertained from the current board, there seems to be difficulty working with the county concerning the building of roads and the adjoining ditches. This is difficult for me to understand; as I attended Walton High School in DeFuniak Springs, and find that many on the North side of the bay are friendly, compassionate people. I always thoroughly enjoy myself when I get a chance to go across the bay. I also attended Freeport School, when K through 12 were in the same facility. My 1st and 2nd grades were at Pt. Washington Elementary School, I also spent 3 years attending schools in Pensacola. The Mosquito Control is not only a county entity, but also partly funded by the state, with state resources available to some degree. State guidelines must be followed in all aspects of this organization. I understand the unpleasantness of having to spray poison as one of the solutions available for the control of these pests, yet the lesser of two evils. Many diseases are transmitted by Mosquito’s with very unpleasant effects. I feel that if there were some other means available, it should be considered understanding it must go through rigorous testing as required. There are other solutions that are done to control these pests, and this information must be relayed to all newcomers moving to this area. Keeping yards clean and free from debris that holds water is vital, and is a constant concern. Eliminating standing water and keeping it moving is important. Also of concern are the fertilizers and pesticides used to keep yards well groomed. These toxins must not be allowed to enter our bay and waterways. I am a divorced mother of 2, Julia will be 15 on July 21, and Eddie just turned 14 June 1. I have been divorced since September of 1996. My father, Ed Walline, died in 1975, and was to me very devastating. My mother, Jane Walline, died in 1987, my great aunt, Helen Gallanos, died in 1996, and my grand mother, Louise Livingston, died in 1997. I and my children are the last remaining of my family in this county. I was an only child of an only child, and had to handle the estates of the last 3 family members. I obtained salvation January 14, 1979, and have not turned back. I dedicated my life to tending to the needs of my elderly family, then my children, and now my county. This is my home, and I would not like to live anywhere else. Many people here are kinder to me than my own distant relatives. It is distressing to me to see our native people suffer because of the thoughtlessness of a board that isn’t concerned enough to search out all the information concerning a matter before decisions are made. As owner of low income rentals, Walline Estates Mobile Home Park in Santa Rosa Beach, I see and hear the needs of our people and have for about 20 years. I also sold Avon for about 13 years, and passed out 220 books every other week throughout South Walton. This venture introduced me to many and enabled me to hear their concerns. I’m a Walline, and love to work with my hands, woodworking, remodeling, and I love to fish! I can be contacted at 850-267-0376, or email, adriannew1@embarqmail.com. I sincerely hope you will consider me for this position when you vote! Thank you, Adrianne Walline Campbell
