Candidate's Statement

Re-Elect Magee I have enjoyed serving you for the past four years. I have worked extremely hard to control unnecessary spending and to bring value to you as the taxpayer. The SWMC is a Two Million Dollar a year organization. “One of my primary missions will be to have our three-man commission expanded to a five-man commission, to properly represent you the taxpayer!” Conflict There is a conflict of interest when you have two brothers running for the same commission on different seats. In the event both brothers are elected to this three-man commission, the Crawford’s will dominate the commission, making voting difficult for a third commissioner. Important My two opponents have never attended one single budget meeting of the SWMC, yet they want you to entrust their abilities in the spending of Two Million Dollars of your hard-earned money. My opponent, Mr Faulk, stated in the Sun that his concerns are about paving dirt roads rather than increasing the productivity of the mosquito control (Sun Newspaper published August 9, 2008.) I was never aware that we were responsible for the paving of dirt roads in South Walton, although I do believe they need to be paved. This is a Road Department and a County Commissioner issue. I have worked to limit and reduce spending without sacrificing quality or service. Under my strong leadership, we have reduced the operational budget without sacrificing jobs or service. I have successfully reduced our budget by 29%. Leadership President/CEO Hi-Tec Laboratories, Inc., Freeport. My wife Patricia and I started this company in 1993 with a small amount of our savings. Hi-Tec Laboratories is a specialty manufacturing company. Together we have built this company into a multi-million-dollar international business, which we conduct in six countries. Our primary customers are Wal-Mart, Lowe’s, Ace Hardware, True Value Hardware, Publix, Winn Dixie, and in many other retail locations. We employ over 50 people year-round. The majority of our employees are residents of Walton County. Until you have had to personally make a weekly payroll with your own money, you cannot appreciate the stress and budgeting one has to do to ensure proper cash flow. This type of strong, dedicated leadership and conviction to detail is what I bring the SWMC and have for many years. Other Affiliations • Florida Mosquito Control Association BOD • American Chemical Society • South Walton Republican Club • Freeport Kiwanis Club • Holiday Shores Homeowners Association • Resurrection Catholic Church Brief History Patricia and I were married in 1973. We moved our family to South Walton County in 1982 from Anniston, AL. We are the proud parents of two sons, John and David. John currently resides in Castle Rock, Colorado with his wife Renee and our grandson Ian. David and his wife Ryan make their home in Destin along with our granddaughter Reagan and grandson Archer, who was just born in August. I am proud to have served my country and am a United States Army Combat Engineer/ Air Assault during the Veteran Conflict, also trained in Chemical Biological Warfare. Mosquito Control comes under the Department of Homeland Security and is also considered to be a target for terrorists. Five-Man Commission I was elected by you in 2004 to the SWMC. I had to deal with the two commissioners who were related (they were mother and son) for two years. At times it was extremely difficult to conduct business considering our commission has only three seats. One of my opponents is the brother of one of the current commissioners. It is most important to conduct business on a professional level, especially since our budget consists of Two Million Dollars. I pride myself on the fact that I have always been able to separate my personal feelings for the best of the majority, and I will continue with the leadership that you deserve if am re-elected. Considering the size of our budget and that it will continue to grow as time goes on, it is imperative that this commission be expanded from three commissioners to five. This would better manage and represent its constituents. Our goal is to provide you with a safe and healthy environment. I believe in a persistent preventive maintenance program to prevent the outbreak of mosquitoes and the diseases they transmit. Our last resort should be in using chemicals. The SWMC has had some shaky times over the last two years results have been to the betterment of the taxpayer. We also have been creating a more conducive working environment for our employees. With the recent suspension of one of our commissioners, due to the two felony convictions, it is even more important that I am re-elected. Otherwise, you could have three new commissioners who have never even attended any meetings, and are spending your Two Million Dollars. Votemagee@yahoo.com
