Dr. Alice Beth Barfield is a dedicated education professional with a proven track record of leadership and success in the Glades County school district. Born and raised in Glades County, Alice has deep roots in the community and a strong commitment to improving the quality of education for all students.

Alice's journey in education began in the Glades County school district, where she attended Moore Haven schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. In 1990, she proudly graduated from Moore Haven High School.  Alice went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Florida Southern College and a Master's degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. She furthered her education by obtaining a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership from the same institution.

With a passion for transforming underperforming schools, Alice served as a turnaround principal . Her leadership skills, coupled with her dedication to improving education standards, led her to become the Superintendent of Schools in Glades County in 2020. 

Under Alice's leadership, the Glades County school district has witnessed remarkable improvements. The graduation rate has seen a substantial increase, elevating the district from sixth to the number one ranking in the Heartland Consortium. Alice's focus on recruiting and retaining high-quality teachers is evident in the significant rise in teacher salaries, which have increased from $31,000 to over $51,000.

Alice Barfield is a results-driven leader who prioritizes data-driven decision-making in all aspects of her work. She is known for her fiscal responsibility and transparent management of taxpayer dollars. By taking a student-centered approach to policy-making, Alice ensures that every decision benefits the students and the community at large.

Alice is committed to enhancing the operational efficiency of the school district by implementing proactive measures and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. She believes in the importance of establishing robust procedures and systems to drive positive change and elevate the standards of education in the community.
