Candidate's Statement

Dear Citizens of Baker County,

I am thrilled to introduce myself and announce my decision to seek the office of Baker County Judge. I am Julie Crews Johnson, and I was born and raised right here in Baker County. I have spent over 20 years serving our county as a Public Defender and I am looking forward to continuing my service to our community as judge. With two decades of service and as a lifetime resident in our county, I feel that I am uniquely familiar with the people and justice system in Baker County.

Seeking the position of Baker County Judge has been a lifelong aspiration for me. I went to school in Baker County and graduated in 1993 as the Salutatorian of our class. After high school, I attended the University of North Florida, graduating Summa Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in economics and criminal justice, then graduating with honors from the University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1999. As a law graduate, I was honored as a member of the Order of the Coif (top 10% of class) and Who’s Who among American Legal Students in the nation. As a voter in Baker County, what does all of this mean to you? It means I studied hard, worked hard, and graduated law school at the top of my class, because I knew I was using my education to come home to protect the Constitutional rights of my neighbors in Baker County. After all, protecting our Constitutional rights and ensuring the criminal justice system treats all citizens fairly and equally is exactly why I became a Public Defender over 20 years ago.

In addition to a solid career in protecting our constitutional rights, I am a proud daughter, wife, and mother. I married Craig Johnson (BCHS ’85) over 27 years ago and we have three children, Wade (BCHS ’18), Sydney (BCHS ’22), and Will (BCHS ’25). My parents are James (BCHS ’64) and Mary (BCHS ’69) Crews, and my extended family includes my brother, Darrell and Rachel Crews, their children, and my in-laws, the late Jimmy (BCHS ’64) and Kathy Johnson, John and Stacie Adams, and their children. All of our family lives right here in Baker County and each of us share a mutual love for and commitment to our community.

Baker County, as you begin looking towards the upcoming election, I am asking you to prayerfully consider me as your next county judge. As your county judge, I guarantee you I will uphold the constitution and ensure our justice system treats every citizen fairly and equally.

Join my family in electing Julie Crews Johnson as your next Baker County Judge!

Respectfully,

Julie Crews Johnson

"I have known Julie Johnson for over 20 years. In that time, I have worked with her at the Public Defender's office and gotten to know her well. Julie is an excellent attorney. Julie is one of the smartest attorneys I have ever met and I have learned a lot working with her. Julie is professional, courteous, and caring about the individuals our office represents, as well as the vicitms, their families, and other indviduals she encounters on a daily basis. Julie has all the skills needed to make an excellent Judge for Baker County, and I trust Julie will serve the people of Baker County proudly.   I encourage everyone to vote for Julie for Baker County Judge in August." - George Nelson, Division Chief of the Baker County Office of the Public Defender and 38-year veteran attorney
